🌍 african “fattening rooms”: the cultural roots of what we celebrate here

Slimjim:
Most people think feederism and fat admiration are purely modern kinks, but in parts of Africa, they’ve been cultural practices for centuries.

In my culture (Nigeria), fatness traditionally symbolised wealth, beauty, fertility, and good health. Among the Efik people in Calabar, brides-to-be would be secluded in special “fattening rooms” for months. There, they’d be pampered, taught womanhood, and encouraged to gain weight before marriage.

These images are from both modern ceremonies and historical records 👇

When I look at this community, I see a parallel: what we do here isn’t strange or “taboo” it’s part of a long human tradition of celebrating fatness as power, prosperity, and attraction.

Maybe Fantasy Feeder isn’t just fantasy at all… maybe it’s a continuation of something much older.

Had anyone here ever heard of the Calabar fattening room before?

You’ve hit on a number of parallels between cultures, indeed. As also seen in Buddhist culture, a fattened belly isn’t seen as weakness. It is seen as a strength. It’s seen as a sign of stature. 👍

Is it time to encourage obesity?

Munchies:
Death is a foreign concept in western culture because of how removed from it we are. It's why everyone is so obsessed with health and looking young even though we know deep down we are all going to die one day.

There is an aspect of fatphobia that plays into this. People will look at a fast person and be like "Why aren't you doing everything to avoid mortality?" And they go insane.

Sweetfattie:
Yup. I had an extremely close call in my early twenties, the kind where the hospital told my parents to get my sister home on the next flight to say goodbye because I might not make it to morning. That was part of what spurred me to reevaluate my obsession with dieting and weight loss. Lying there in the hospital bed and reflecting on my life, I remember thinking "I don't remember the last time I ate cheesecake. I would have died hungry, miserable, and without the joy of cheesecake."

Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die. That's not to say I don't pay attention to my health, I managed to reverse high cholesterol by eating less fatty meat and more vegetables. (The key is to load those veggies up with intense flavors that hide the taste.) But I also eat cheesecake when I feel the urge.

Big respect to you for surviving the most harrowing part of your journey and happy you’re here ❤️ Totally agreed on the ability to eat tasty things but still remain healthy 👍

Fat shamed by doctor

HappyBigBelly:
The interesting thing is that her last several trips to the doc have involved just asking her what her weight is. She purposely just tells them a number, ha. Told them 314 most recently. I think she’s about 330 based on recent pics. :-)

Munchies:
Just asking? That's odd. Every time I go, I get weighed - no matter the type of appointment or doctor. They tend not to trust self-reports for this very reason.

I agree it’s odd. I’m starting to think the place’s scales aren’t set up for heavier people?

Ai generated content, yay or nay?

I’ve seen a bit of the AI gaining story channels on YT. Some are done quite well, while others are a bit cringy with the dialog and issues with the story flow.

When did you feel your fat the most? 😳🍑

Not as much related to being in public, but my wife and I experience it when we rub or scratch our bellies. Our hands are dwarfed by our bellies more and more :-)

Has anyone on here experienced sympathy weight gain in themselves or their partner.

My wife’s big pregnancy gains were years ago and she was already a BBW when we met :-) She’s kept all of it on and then some ❤️

Cute clothes

HomuraAkemi:
Sumissura does do bespoke dresses. You just choose one of their designs and add your own measurements. The only con I have found so far is their shipping is pretty slow.

Currently, I am compiling Etsy shops I have found that do custom orders on handmade clothing. I used to have an ultimate list on my old phone but the battery died. I think I sent some site links on a previous account however I can't find it.

Would love to pass along to my wife once you rustle up another list? :-)

A kink you have that you bet no one else has?

BigBallBellyGirl:
I'm pretty sure this is going to be a unique one. I'm short, but I've always been obsessed with how much my belly and midsection expands when I sit down and have nowhere to go but out. I'm already practically round when I stand. When I sit, I almost look like an oval on its side. The difference between my standing waist and sitting waist, as big as I am, is nearly 2 ft.

Nice :-) It’s the same for anyone over 300 with a double belly, I think. Wifey’s waist and lower belly area, which we’ve not really ever measured, expands noticeably when she sits down.

Cute clothes

PolarbearLife:
Does anyone know of a site or store that sell cute clothes sized 5x or bigger? I've been looking but most stop at 4x

Hi, Polar 😊

In this house, it’s a lot of Torrid and a lot of Shein, believe it or not. Wife is pretty much a 4x/5x these days. If she’s happy with the styles, then so I 😊
