Profiles

Bigwideland:
Hi,

Alot of profile basically have no information, so are people not confident or hiding. Given the amount of potential for fraud and identity theft there days. I think we need an ability to prevent profiles looking at ours and content if they are not 100 complete and do not have a threshold of activity.

BWL.

Hi Bigwideland,

We do have members who choose not to fill out or verify their profiles. Whether that’s because they’re shy, security-conscious, or for reasons that may be less genuine, we can never know a user’s exact intentions.

That said, we do have certain checks in place for example, if a user hasn’t uploaded an avatar, they can’t send messages. We could consider adding further measures, such as making profiles invisible to members who don’t meet specific profile completion or activity requirements. I’ll suggest this idea to hiccupx for consideration.

If implemented, I imagine it could be an opt-in feature, something like a “Make my profile invisible to blank profiles” setting.

In the meantime, I encourage members to verify their accounts. Verified accounts are searchable, so when you contact someone, you can see they’ve submitted photo proof confirming they are who they claim to be.

Please also report any suspicious accounts to the moderator team using the abuse report feature if required.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Chat update 27/01/2025 - report bugs here

Canuck:
hi folks, i realize the chat is a work in progress... just thought i would mention this because it seemed kind of like a bug. i am using a linux computer and firefox.

when i was on the "user" tab, when i clicked on someone to chat with them, their name would be highlighted and go to the top of the list (just like in the past). but when i was chatting with one individual, and switching between the group and user tabs, it wasn't highlighting them or putting them at the top of the page.

also, the top of the tab indicated i had messages waiting, but those user names were not highlighted either, so i couldn't tell who was trying to chat with me.

appreciate all the work you are doing on this, and i look forward to whatever new features come next!

FF Team:
Hi,
Thank you for highlighting this. I just wanted to let you know that we are looking into it.

I tested in chat today and couldn’t replicate the issues you mentioned. Opening or receiving a private chat moved the user to the top of the user list, highlighted them in grey, and showed the notification on the tab and against the chat in the user list.

Hiccupx also tested using the same OS (Linux) and Firefox browser and was unable to replicate the issue.

Could you please try again on your end and let us know if the problem persists? If possible, please share any error messages you see, as they could help us identify the cause.

Thank you!

Edddde:
will video chat be possible?

We’re please to announce that webcam sharing will soon be available in chat. This feature will give users a new way to connect in real time.

It will also serve as a secure, on-site option for account verification, which we hope will help keep our members safe. Rather than going off site straight away and risking potential scams, you will be able to quickly ask someone to confirm who they are and share their cam on site first.

Thanks!

Porn!

I'm going to delete the recent posts in this thread because, although the original spam post (and its user) have now been removed, several quotes of that post still contain the dangerous link. These quoted post will be removed to eliminate the risk of users clicking the link.

Update: Unfortunately we are currently experiencing a technical issue with the admin function to delete posts. These posts will be removed as soon as possible.
In the meantime, please do not click the link.

Thanks,

User not available message

Hi,

When this happens the user has either deleted their account or they have been banned.

At the moment the user message still appears in the inbox list I believe. But when you click on the message it will display an error message as the content is no longer viewable. The reason its no longer viewable is due to GDPR compliance.

As the message is no longer visible, it is probably worth looking into removing the message from the inbox list. IT currently still stays in the list because its linked with an active user (in this case your messages). But you raise a point in that this looks confusing and makes users question why they cant see the message or profile.

Hope this helps, and I will highlight this for review.

Comment error

Hi,

Thank you for this. I have done some testing and was able to make a comment and reply to comments without causing any errors. So I will pass this over to hiccupx.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and inclusion of the error code. That will be very helpful when he looks into this. It could be that this is no longer an issue which is why it's not happening when I tested. But it's best to double check all the same!

Take care

Stories as previews for patreon sites

If it's linked to a paysite or there is a pay wall to view the content it breaks the site rules.

If it links to a free site that would be ok, but raises the question why not simply add it to the story here?

Authirs can always apply for a earners account to post premium stories to earn commission here if that's something they're interested in.

Take care,

Chat update 27/01/2025 - report bugs here

ASwedishEscapade:
By moving all user details into this drop-down box you've esentially made the User tab impossible to throw a glance at and know which users align with your interests/preferences. Now the only information you glean from users are their profile pic and username. Unless you manually open each and every users' drop-down box.

And what happens when you fat-finger this 10x10 pixel button? You open a new chat with that user. What a swell design choice considering the nature of this website. smiley

On top of this you've removed the only fast way to reach a user's profile i.e via clicking their avatar in general chat. And in my case FFs profile search is completely broken. So I can't even open the profiles of chat users to understand who they are and what they want.

A new user (or cleaned cookies) who jumps into gen chat is bombarded by users joining/leaving chat. This is a bad idea and you should have that option disabled by default, not enabled.

We're rolling out updates incrementally, as mentioned before, so kindly bare with us as we make these gradual changes. What you see right now is not the full update.

Many features are still being worked on. For example, the “joining/leaving” notifications you mention will be removed entirely, and the “View Profile” button is coming back — this time in the dropdown menu for easier access consistent across both the chat user list and user tab.

Clicking on a username or avatar used to take you out of the chat app, which is something we've been meaning to fix for a while. Users have raised this issue many times, and we're finally addressing it.

Again, because these are incremental updates, you're not seeing the full picture yet. Another example our planned updates. The dropdown will eventually open a popup that shows profile and chat info, rather than expanding the menu list ' similar to WhatsApp'. This same popup system will be used for private chats, so instead of accidentally opening a private chat by clicking someone's profile, you’ll get a confirmation pop up first.

Another reason we’re moving profile info out of the current space is because that area right under usernames, will soon be used to display the first line of a user’s message in private chats. So the function of that space has changed (or will, once this update is complete). Giving users more indication of whether they want to open and engage with a private chat request. Which again is something that's been asked for by users that we are now implementing.

Please be patient. We're rolling out changes gradually to avoid overwhelming users and to catch bugs early. If you can hold feedback until the full UI is live, that would be really helpful. Of course, once it's all in place, we’d love your input, but for now things are not finished and as we have redesigned chat.

Why are we doing it this way? Because Hiccupx is one person and not a full development team. Testing and releasing in chunks is simply more manageable for us.

We get it, people don't like change. But once everything is live, it will make a lot more sense to users from an UI / UX perspective.

Just be patient folks. Chat is a complex part of the site and we are making small changes so that we can fix any bugs as they arise. Also so that chat continues to be useable while we make updates. We don't want to make all the changes in one go and potentially have a broken and unusable chat application.
