Tying shoes is a pain in the butt.

Wouldn't just telling them straight out your preference be simple enough?
No reason to try and think up some contrived story to try and justify asking.
Just be open and honest.
I would rather a guy or partner just be honest of their desires.

I would like to see proof of that.

When I was actively gaining I constantly ended up going over my goal weight.
I didn't weigh myself all the time like some did and always ended up 5 or 10 lbs over the goal I had set.
