Having the author's read their own work would be nice, but too time consuming for us to set up and administer to release as a new feature. This way we can convert the text to speech automatically, every day as the stories are uploaded. I'm hoping in the coming days to get many more stories converted to audio, so keep looking back.

We need to cover our costs and develop the site, but want to keep the community feel and realise that many people can't afford to upgrade.

Yes the pics section does support GIFs. You can also upload animated GIFs, although these will be reduced to a regular image.

If authors are holding off on uploading a new chapter until they get a few more likes or comments, then why not just give them the feedback they desire.

Most authors on this site upload their stories for free, so the only reward for them is the likes and comments they get.

It takes a second to like a story and probably less than a minute to write a comment. If you've enjoyed the story then why not give something back. That will then encourage more authors to upload, which is of benefit to everyone.
