I’ve been having a hard time trying to gain weight I’ve always been really skinny but have never tried to actively gain until now will my metabolism slow down as I push through and keep eating or should I wait until it slows naturally?
Arame:
Your metabolism or BMR(Basal metabolic rate) is directly influenced by your lean body mass index(how much you weigh minus the body fat). The leaner you are, meaning less body fat you have, the higher your metabolism will be. To slow it down, you need to increase your body fat percentage. One pound of fat is 3,500 calories. So, to gain one pound of fat a week, you need to consume 500 calories above your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) aka maintenance calories per day to reach 3,500 calories in a 7 day span. Because 3,500 divided by 7 is 500.
By my calculations, you being a male at 5’11, 128lbs. Your BMR should be around 1,593. Assuming that you want to live a sedentary lifestyle, then your TDEE should be around 1,911 calories per day. So, to gain, you should be consuming 2,411 calories a day. Hopefully this helps

That’s a great calculation
Eh, not really. I don’t know his body fat percentage, therefore his lean body index so I had to use the Mifflin-St Jeor Formula which in my experience isn’t as accurate as the Katch-McCardle formula. So this was just an estimate and guideline. But thanks though. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
