Self publishing v earning stories

Mrman1980uk:
I am intrigued. Is there currently any feedist literature on Amazon?

Letters And Numbers:
There’s quite a bit. Some of it cross-pollinates with sites like this one.

Also, I started an earnings account a few days ago and I’m pretty impressed so far. I didn’t have super high expectations but it’s been good.

Mrman1980uk:
Interesting. This stuff is more mainstream than I had imagined. Do you have links to any of this?

Letters And Numbers:
So just as an example, Saxitlurg posts stories here and cross posts on amazon: amazon.com/dp/B0C7WK4SRY

If you scroll down you’ll find similar authors.

Mrman1980uk:
Very interesting. Those have all been published in the last few months. Is this a recent phenomenon?

Letters And Numbers:
I doubt it. WG erotica has been around for a long time. Amazons algorithm is showing you what it thinks you want to see and weighing more recent additions.

Mrman1980uk:
You are right - searching a little found some dating back to 2019 or so. Most interesting.

Yeah, I mostly see short stories and some short story collections, which seem expensive unless you have Kindle Unlimited. I’m debating posting a 400 page novel there but I don’t know how it would sell.

What does blocking actually do?

Canderson206:
I'm saying I can see their posts everywhere, whether they're quoted or not.

It just seems like blocking someone should make their profile and commentary invisible, not just prevent them from sending a DM.

Well, apologies if you tried to block me. I'll be more quiet!

What does blocking actually do?

Canderson206:
There are some members of this community whose commentary and forum posts I do not wish to see. I blocked them as a result.

I can still see their commentary.

This seems antithetical to the way the concept of "blocking" is supposed to work on most social media platforms. Is something broken, or am I misunderstanding how the concept of "blocking" works on this website?

Are you saying you can still see them when other users quote them? On this site, I thought blocking primarily stopped them from direct messaging you, which is useful.

I’m in sort of the same boat as you, and a little intimidated by self publishing, but I don’t think it’s actually that intimidating. FF is nice in that there is all sorts of flexibility here and it has a very focused audience. But there’s just way more people who buy books on Amazon or Smashwords. You don’t necessarily need to do one or the other, though, unless (someone correct me if I’m wrong) you’re signed up through Kindle Unlimited, in which case they have an exclusivity contract that limits where your work is made available.

August story club - the thief by bcain

Thanks again, Bcain!

Short and sweet (x2), there’s the obvious reversal of fortune and a transformation scene that’s really well done, I think. It’s not a lot of words, but it’s paced nicely with development along the way and it has a sense of movement. And the ultimate bad guy is…stairs. The differences between the two stories are subtle, maybe too subtle! I would have liked to see somewhat branching paths, or seeing things from different perspectives, but it’s still a unique approach to a quick bite story.

My only other comment is that the MCs are really pretty bad people, and while they get what’s coming to them, for this audience it’s not necessarily the punishment it might be for someone else! It would be interesting to see the day after. Nice work!
