Former athlete

Ha, I know that feeling well! I was a fairly successful high school athlete, and continued on into and even after college. Nowadays I'm lucky if I get myself to work out once a month, and my body definitely shows the difference! Especially since I haven't really done much to update my work out clothes, so those 25lbs are making themselves known in the form of belly rolls and love handles whenever I do drag myself out the door.

Who would be most surprised to see your weight gain?

Def an ex of mine from high school. Especially since she is still super thin and fit, I can imagine her making fun of me quite a bit. Kind of a nice though actually.

Daily "i'm fat" reminders

Someone said it already but for me definitely always having to pull my pants up after my tummy pushes it down.

That and catching my reflection in store windows etc and reminding myself to "suck in" just to look the way I'm used to. Or in the same situation letting my belly relax and seeing how out of shape i've really become.

Show off extra pounds in public

Ha, I was actually just experimenting with this a bit tonight. I decided to go for a run and since it's been exceptionally hot in my area lately I decided to have a bit of fun with it and go shirtless (I'm a guy). I'm definitely not to the point of being fat-fat, but I definitely am at the point where my belly and chest jiggles quite a bit when I run. Probably enough for passerby to notice.

I've also gained about 20 pounds so I am at a point where I can get away with wearing some of my "normal" clothes but they are now tight enough to give me noticeable rolls. I have friends in my neighborhood so I was simultaneously terrified and hopeful i would run into someone who knows me that could comment on me gaining weight. I've always had the reputation of being the in-shape skinny one among my friend so I'm sure they would take note of my extra pudge. Though I expect they'd be far too polite to say anything.

Smaller clothes

Haha, I definitely do that. My favorite is athletic clothes from back when I was super fit that I really have to squeeze into now. Those are definitely for at-home use only though

Last week was actually the first time I consciously wore too-tight clothes out in public. Nothing major, just a pair of jeans from about 15lbs ago, and sweater that shrank in the wash. It was a cool to feel everything jiggle while I walked down the street, and be aware of my belly dropping just a bit over my belt buckle. I probably just looked like another out of shape dad to people passing by, but I enjoyed the whole thing.

Some clothes fit better after gaining?

So I've had a kind of strange experience. I've been slowly gaining (unintentionally) over the last few years. As such there have always been a handful clothes in back of my closet that I have grown out of, since I am not the best about editing my wardrobe.

In the past few months though my weight has spiked a bit, piling on about 10 pounds in record time. This morning on a whim I decided to try on some of my old clothes (outgrown before my recent gain), and found them to actually be more comfortable than I remembered.

My only theory is that as all of my regular pants have gotten tighter I have gotten used to the sensation of my belly being constricted, so when I tried on the "too tight" pants it wasn't as surprising. It's normal for my belly to push the front of my pants down, or to form rolls and droop a little when I sit, so these "too tight" pants are now just "a bit tighter than all my other pants".

Daily "i'm fat" reminders

one for me is whenever I bend over to pick something up I have to consciously bend a little further than I'm used to cause my belly rolls get in the way.

Officially overweight

According to online BMI indexes I've officially crossed over into being overweight in the past few months (I was teetering on the edge of 'acceptable' for a while).

I'm honestly not crazy about that fact, but I also am kind of turned on by it at the same time. And I do love the little tummy I've been sporting.

Fit to fat

Ha, yeah I've been definitely creeping down that road. 20lbs have slowly crept on since college, and the end of organized sports for me. Most people won't believe me cause I still LOOK fit for the most part, but a quick peak under my shirt would show some fat rolls.

Lettin' it all hang out?

I've only gained a little bit, but it's enough that if I wear old clothes it's somewhat noticeable. Sometimes I'll do it on purpose so to show off the beginnings of my beer belly when I'm just walking around.
