20 chapter limit

I've made a change to the way the viewing limit it calculated, which will hopefully make things seem a bit fairer.

Up until now, the limit was actually counted by chapter page views, not distinct chapters. So if you refreshed a page, went back to re-read a paragraph, or your connection hiccuped and reloaded the chapter, that counted as a second view and ate into your daily allowance without you actually reading anything new.

I've changed this so the limit is now based on the chapter itself, within the rolling 24 hour window. That means you can open, refresh, or revisit the same chapter as many times as you like, and it will only ever count once. I realise this won't stretch your 20 chapters into 21 or 25 chapters' worth of new content, but it does mean you're no longer losing your free allowance to something you'd already used up a 'view' for.

Chat resets

Stuffytummywriter:
hey dude. they're doing this for free. on their own time.

so yeah its really annoying but please chill and throw in a please and thank you here and there

Thanks for your support. We are a small business so we don't actually do this for free, but there are only two of us plus the volunteer moderators, so we can't always respond as quick as a big corporation, but we do our best.

To address the chat issue, yes we are aware of the resetting issue and this is in our program of work to address. We'll try to get a fix our within a week or two so please be patient for now and hang on in there.

20 chapter limit

Hey Bassbum60,

Thanks for your post. That's a lot of fair questions and I'll try to answer:

20 chapters a day is ridiculous, I read that often and have already had the block today, I would only contribute if a large proportion was going straight to the author, your basically getting people to write stories for free then profiting from it. It raises a few questions,

Like why should the paying readers be paying for the non paying for the readers time on the servers and stuff?

That's essentially how most free-to-access platforms work. The people who use the service most heavily are the ones the cap touches, and a smaller number who choose to subscribe help keep the whole thing running for everyone else.

What do the authors get out of it since your making money from they're content they are creating for no pay.

This is the point that's come up most in this thread, and it's genuinely on my to do list, although I can't at this point give timings. For authors who do want to earn, we have our Earners program which pays commission. Anyone can apply and we encourage authors to do so.

At what point do you just make the whole site a paid club ?

This isn't something we're planning to do. Free reading isn't being phased out — it's the majority of what's on the site and I want it to stay that way.

Could you not advertise like porn websites advertise ? The content is 18+ anyway, it would be a much better way to make profit then to charge for what should be free content.

We've tried advertising in the past but it's just not worked. The mainstream ad networks won't touch us, and in any case they come with tracking, malware and other privacy problems that I'm not willing to put the community through. We've also tried web model banners, but most girls just tend to do this for a bit of extra cash and there isn't enough in it to keep us going. As for porn banners - well we're not a porn site and most have objected quite strongly to this in the past.

Have you looked into other ways to profit instead of extorting the writers for theyre content just to profit, or pay for. "running costs"

If it's truly just for running costs why don't you just give us a 20 chapter limit then, pay like however many cents it costs per page to view. We credit our account then you subtract the cents it costs per page if that's the true reason.

This is a fair suggestion, only for the people in this thread it won't change the underlying sticking point: pay-per-page is still paying, just measured differently.

On 'extorting writers' — I want to push back gently there, the cap is on overall platform use, not a toll on any one writer's content.

Why have paid employees if the website can't sustain they're income already. I understand expanding why don't you make another dating website, or a specialised adult video and photo content website. This is a forum for people into feederism stop making feederism something you have to be rich to be apart of

I'll say this much, because it matters to me personally: I've run this as a free platform for over 20 years, back when there was almost nowhere online for this community to exist at all. So "stop making feederism something you have to be rich to be part of" genuinely lands — because that's a big part of why I built this site and why I'm still here. That's exactly the thing I'm trying to protect, not undo.

Thanks for taking the time to write your comments, it's genuinely more useful than you might think.

20 chapter limit

Big Belly Jim:
Limited of 20 chapter, not fun, especially when I have to view chapter 1 everytime if I want to see newer chapters.

The change we made recently (making the first chapter of every story free), means that it doesn't count towards your viewing limit.

The navigation is the same and hasn't changed, so yes, you have to load the first page to load the chapter drop down, but then you can quickly pick up where you left off. This is the same as it always was.

'favourites' tab/page

Thewinding:
Thanks for taking a look! The issue persists for me, but it's slightly different now. When I go to Favourites on Android, I get the blank background right away under Profiles as the default load. (Previously, I would get the "Your favorites will appear here" graphic.) So something has changed for the better in that it is trying to load the Profile Favourites right away now -- they are just not displaying for whatever reason. As I tap the other categories where I have favourites selected, it is the same as before. Blank background in that space.

Sounds like it may not be displaying the thumbnail images for some reason. I'll take another look at it.

20 chapter limit

Belyn:
...no reader will start unfinished 1-2 chapter stories and support them when it's a 20 chapter limit...

Thanks for highlighting this important point to us. In response we've made a change - the first chapter of every story is now free to read even if you've hit the daily limit. This allows you to read one chapter stories, and assess longer stories without eating into your daily views. Even if you reach the free viewing limit, you can still search and 'favorite' stories to read the next day.

Justenjoy:
First they implemented the paid story feature, clogged the stories section with them so you’d be incentivized to pay...

Premium and free stories do appear in the same listings — but every premium story is marked with a 'coin' icon, so they're easy to spot and easy to skip if you only want free reading. They're not designed to bury free work, and free stories aren't going anywhere.

Justenjoy:
... Now, they see most people just read the free stories so they try to monetize those, too. It’s greed all the way down.

I won't pretend the site doesn't need revenue, it does, and I'd rather say that plainly than dress it up. But "greed all the way down" isn't quite the whole story: the cap is on heavy use of the platform, not a paywall on free stories, and now the first chapter of everything is free on top of that. I know that distinction can feel academic when you're the one hitting the cap, but it's a real difference.

One more thing, because it came up a lot here: we also fixed a bug where authors were being blocked from reading their own stories — that was wrong, and it's fixed. And the broader point several of you raised, that our most invested writers shouldn't feel this the hardest, is one I've genuinely taken on board. I can't promise specifics or timings, but it's firmly on my list of things to get right. Feedback like this is exactly what shapes those priorities.
