Sophia

chapter 3

The following day, Sophia began her search for an apartment to rent, but found absolutely nothing. Exasperated, she decided to visit her old best friend, Maggie, instead. Stella, Maggie and Sophia had been inseparable in high school, but she had lost touch with Maggie long ago, and only her brother's suggestion to surprise her at her house brought her to her doorsteps.
The front door swung open to a tall, unfamiliar man. He was rather handsome, but his every movement seemed tired, and he came off as quite cold.
"Hi, my name's Sophia and I'm old friends with Maggie- I moved back to town and thought it would be nice to come visit her?" She suddenly felt overwhelmingly nervous.
"Sure. She's in the kitchen." Without further notice, the man disappeared into the house. As she navigated her way through the unfamiliar home, she noticed framed pictures of a young girl and boy on the walls.
"Hello?" she called out.
"Sophia?! Is that you??"
Following the voice, she entered a small but messy kitchen. An obese woman sat on a stool, feeding a chubby-looking toddler. Sophia couldn't believe her eyes.
Could this truly be the same Maggie who flaunted her incredible body in tiny, revealing outfits all through high school? The same Maggie that made guys drool over her and girls hate her?
Her miniscule, muscular stomach had been replaced with a mountain of lard. Her stained shirt rode up to reveal a thick band of pale, fleshy skin, and her once-perky and perfectly rounded breasts were now massive, and rested heavily on her large, sagging stomach.
"Sophia! How are you?! I haven't seen you in forever! How is the big city?" She exclaimed, her rounded face lighting up with excitement.
"I- I- Maggie!" She scoured her brain for a response, but words failed her. Her friend was unrecognizable.
"I guess I forgot to tell you that I got married! You must've met my husband at the door, his name is Jerry. And we had two beautiful twins. Meet Lucy, my daughter!"
Sophia stood in stunned silence as her old friend babbled on about her life since high school, but failed to recognize her immense weight gain amongst her stories. Jerry drove Lucy off to her piano lessons, and Maggie poured each of them tall glasses of wine and took a steaming chicken pot pie from the oven, serving them each a huge slab of the delicious smelling pie. The wine was followed by more wine, and the pie followed by several more slices.
Sophia began to feel very drunk and very full, and was enjoying catching up with Maggie greatly, now that she'd almost gotten over the initial shock of seeing the fat girl who'd replaced her once-stunning best friend. When they finished off the bottle of wine, she watched in amazement as Maggie opened another bottle, and took out an baker's dozen box of donuts. She was beginning to see why she'd gained so much weight so easily. Sophia managed another glass of wine and three delicious jelly donuts before passing out on the sofa, drunk and pleasantly stuffed.
