Susans revenge

Chapter 7 - six years later

Eventually, Simon was pushed to the back of my mind.
I had several short term boyfriends (including John and Trevor)! And I had one long term boyfriend who I though was going to move in with, but turned out to be a commitment-phobe.
I moved out of the city to the suburbs where a bought a flat of my own.
My social life was not so active now. Many of my freinds were already married and were settling down with children. But just going into the town was a real drama now. I had a fifteen minute walk to the metro station and the trains were not as frequent from my stop. The trains stopped at half eleven, so if I wanted to stay out longer, I would have to get a taxi, which cost nearly £20.
If I had a car, it would have made the journey easier, but, then I would have the issue of parking and I would not be able to drink.

I concentrated on making my flat a nice place to live with the finances that I had.
I'd been out once or twice, usually on works dos so I had not been to the rock club.
I kept in contact with some of my old housemates, sometimes just by phone, occasionally we'd meet in person.
David was one such person. He was a clean cut ordinary guy who had moved down to Leeds for his work, but occasionally he'd had projects he'd had to come up north for. He often stayed with me. We sometimes went out for a meal. We sometimes got very drunk together, but there was no attraction there. We were simply good freinds. He helped me out during difficult patches and I helped him out. I'd been down to Leeds to see him and slept on his floor. It was all completely platonic. He liked his music. That was one of the reasons we got along. He played his acoustic guitar and I would sing, jamming together for fun!
One night David was up, staying over with me. We went out for a meal. It was Friday night and it seemed early to go home and sit by the fire. I asked him if he wanted to go to the rock club with me.
He was not so sure. He was not dressed right. I assured him he would be fine as long as he took off him fair isle jumper. I don't think I was suitably dressed either, but I can't remember the details!

We must have looked like a couple. We sat together, we bought each other drinks, we danced together.

Up to chapter 9 is actually true and autobiographical, although names have been changed, the characters are real!
If you want to skip the preamble, go directly to chapter 10
