Chapter 11 - snap

When Harvey finally did discover the truth, the inevitable fall-out was worse than either Robyn or Scott had expected. Robyn had somehow gone on a massive growth spurt, gaining 15lbs in a single month. Then, when Harvey saw that she had supposedly managed to go for a two hour run whilst lying in bed all day with a hangover, he hit the roof. That was why Robyn hadn't come down when Scott went to pick her up that Saturday to go out for food as usual.

Instead, Scott went upstairs and knocked on the door, to be greeted by Robyn who had set herself up in from on the TV for the afternoon. "We can't do this today," she sighed. "Harvey's ordered me to stay away from you."

Scott laughed initially, but then he realised that Robyn wasn't joking. "He's ordered you?" he asked, shocked.

"It is what it is..." Robyn sighed, walking back in to the apartment and allowing Scott to follow; taking his shoes off at the door as he had always been accustomed to doing.

"Why listen to him now?" Scott asked, confused. "You're hardly going for the 'girlfriend of the year' award are you?" Scott pointed at Robyn's round stomach.

"He'll probably leave me soon anyway," Robyn shrugged, without any emotion. "He's already threatened it several times. Then we can go back to our normal routine."

"And that's what you want? Him to leave you?" Scott asked, confused.

Robyn simply shrugged her shoulders, not committing herself.

Scott didn't know what to think. It was bad enough that Robyn had been ignoring him all week, but now to find that she didn't really even care whether Harvey finished with her or not, it was too much. "I don't want you to wait for him to leave you!" he shouted angrily, the words bursting from his chest as if they had been sat there for months. "That's what you're doing, isn't it?" he bellowed.

Robyn looked taken aback. She clearly hadn't expected this sort of passion from Scott. "I'm not waiting..." she began, mumbling.

"Yes you are!" Scott protested. "You're gaining weight and waiting for him to get so fed up that he leaves," he went on. "Why do you have to make me..."

"Make you what?" Robyn asked, as if desperate to throw the attention off herself and on to Scott.

"...Make me wait for you," Scott answered at long last.

"Wait?" Robyn replied, pretending to sound confused. "You're not waiting for me," she spluttered.

Scott sighed. "I can't do this anymore," he huffed. "I don't have the energy. If you don't even have the decency to admit that there is something here, then... I think it's time we finished things - this - - whatever it is."

He turned and walked out, stopping by the front door to put his shoes back on. That's when Robyn finally followed him out awkwardly, into the hallway. Once Scott was ready, he looked back one last time and then grabbed the door handle.

"What would it be like?" Robyn asked, milliseconds before the latch opened.

"What do you mean?" asked Scott, not raising his gaze from the handle. It wasn't worth the effort.

"You know - if you didn't have to wait for me anymore," Robyn replied gingerly.

"Why would you even care?" Scott sighed dismissively.

"Just... just humour me," Robyn stated calmly.

Scott thought about it. This was his one last chance to impress Robyn. He didn't want to mess it up. "Well..." he began, letting go of the door handle and strutting towards Robyn, circling her as if inspecting her growing body, "...if you were my girlfriend and you were going to wear a t shirt like that," he pointed, "I'd want there to be a lot more belly hanging out of the bottom."
