Gail’s spiritual journey

chapter 2

At university, she became even more rebellious! She grew dreadlocks and became a serial protester with a string of minor related convictions.
She got a job working for a film production company. At first, she felt like she was not taken seriously, then she changed her image into something more corporate. She shaved off her beloved dreadlocks, removed some of her piercings and started to wear a more corporate uniform. Now they took note of her performance and she was able to ascend the ladder.
Now she raised money for her causes by taking up running, so she had to keep herself fit.

Gail started to look inside herself instead of looking outwards. Joining an open circle became quite the revelation. She had never met anyone with the same mind set as herself. In the circle, she found that she was being taught the truth for the first time ever! They understood her weirdness. Amongst them, she fit in!
Through the group, she met her spiritual guide, who was a fisherman from Grimsby with a woolly hat, wellies and a hole in his crewe neck jumper. He said his name was Colin. The others in the group laughed as Gail told them who her guide was. She’d always though spirit guides were exotic ancient Egyptians, native Americans or Indian gurus. Their would be called Running Deer or Amenhotep or Vijay. Her Colin did not like to travel very far without stopping to brew a cup of tea and was very ordinary.
When she got home after meeting Colin for the first time, she felt ravenously hungry. She put it down to not having a proper dinner before she left and the mental energy she must have spent during her meditation. She made a quick sandwich before she went to bed.
She did not sleep until nigh on two o’clock in the morning. It was not because her mind would not switch off, it was simply because she felt energised and not sleepy. Contrarily, she woke early in the morning for work and did not feel like she’d missed out on any sleep. Indeed, she felt quite refreshed and energised, but hungry despite her late night sandwich last night. She settled on two weetabix for her breakfast instead of the usual one. She was already hungry by mid-morning, but refused to give in to it. She held on until lunchtime, ate her preprepared packed lunch and was still hungry! She ended up splurging out at the vending machine and bought a packet of crisps and some chocolate, things she never usually gave a second glance to.
Her peculiar hunger eased off as the day wore on. Gail put it down to her hormones.
The next few days, she had no more hunger pangs and was able to exercise as usual.
