Chapter 3 - now you can get fat...

Later on that night, Hailey and Gene were laying in bed barely watching some old game show re-run and comparing notes from their engagement party - all the little side conversations, ideas, plans, and other things that had come up. Hailey knew her sister had been messing with her, but she just couldn't get what she had said out of her mind. She had been thinking about it ever since she was a little girl. What if it DID happen to her? What would Gene think? How would her life change? What could she do to stop it?

"Oh...so hey, I wanted to ask something..." she started awkwardly. "So like, you saw that picture of my mom, she used to be so skinny just like me..."

Gene had been thinking about it all day. The idea of Hailey turning into a clone of her mother had been tumbling around in his brain. He had never been any sort of chubby chaser, but he didn't really hate fat people either. His older sister had always struggled with her weight, and he never really felt negatively towards larger women. There was something to this thought though. Hailey, like her mom, inexplicably letting herself go as hard as possible. Slowly adding layer upon layer of baby fat, chub, thick fat and blubber in her transition from the thin, athletic girl he fell in love with into a huge whale of a woman. For some reason he couldn't help but feel some twinge of morbid curiosity about the whole thing.

"Well, its just...ugh this is so stupid, but my mom wasn't the only woman in our family like that...my grandmother - her mom, was the same way, and my mom's sister Liz was also..." Hailey added.
Gene had met aunt Liz. She wasn't quite as massive as Hailey's mom, but she couldn't possibly be a pound under 350. He had met her the prior year at thanksgiving and he swore he had never seen another human being stuff themselves full of food like she had.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is...I've always been sort of terrified that when I met someone and ended up getting married...well that the same thing would somehow happen to me." Hailey choked out, her voice beginning to quiver.

"Well, my question is...if for whatever reason I started umm...getting big like them...would you still love me??"

Gene could hear the fear in her voice. It swirled around in his mind, combining with his strange thoughts regarding Julia, Aunt Liz, and Hailey's grandmother. The answer that flashed into his mind was that not only would he still love her, but he was rapidly gaining interest in what it would be like if she started to add a few pounds here or there, or how she would look with the body type of her mother. He knew he couldn't let these thoughts escape, he didn't fully understand them yet himself. He had let the pause in conversation go long enough, any longer and she's going to get the wrong impression.

"Hailey..." he said, as earnestly as he could. "I honestly don't care if you blimp up to 500 pounds and all you want to do is lay around in bed stuffing your face...I will love you until the day I die and weight has nothing to do with it".

She started tearing up. "Gene is so sweet" she thought to herself. She couldn't help but feel lucky that she had found such a kind and understanding guy. She let out a nervous laugh while wiping the tears from her face.

"I guess that means I can get fat now..." she joked.

"That's right babe, now you can get fat" Gene jokingly reassured her, giving her a peck on the cheek.
