Taught a lesson

Chapter 3

Soon the clock ticks down and Tom and Sam say their goodbyes to Jerry. Jerry was calm and collected, one would never know he was blackmailing the girl right in front of him. Sam was stressed, very stressed. Tom wasn’t the type to do anything crazy- she’s known him for years, however she did know he had a reputation of getting what he wanted, which while it made her curious also had her very worried.

Finally it hit 5 o'clock. Right on time, Sam knocked on the front door of the home. Seemingly waiting behind it, Jerry opened the door immediately, motioning her to come inside. She worried he wanted something physical, but by the same token-wasn’t exactly against it. If that could make all of this go away, she could justify it. The same mentality had lead her into this situation in the first placem but little did she know, Jerry knew this about her and had other plans.

“Come into the kitchen and take a seat, I think we should have a little chat,” he says, leading her into the kitchen. They go past a few spare rooms on the way. Jerry had inherited a lot of money from his parents and invested it well, making himself a comfortable living without having to do much. As she follows him she feels like she’s seeing his house for the first time. Its modern look feels like it’s ripped right out of a condo catalog, but it was clear from his lifestyle that cleaning wasn’t his forte.

Almost every table seems rather cluttered. Papers, old boxes, gift cards, papers, receipts, old notes, papers, papers and papers. Sam had noticed the tables puzzled, but shrugs it off and continues into the kitchen.

She thought about why she was here right now. If it was sex he wanted, he would’ve taken her upstairs, she figured. Then finally coming upon the kitchen, sees two chairs sat out and some papers in a neat stack stapled together on a desk between them. The pamphlet was small but dense, looking like a pocket bible almost. Which sat juxtaposed by the mountains of unkempt treeware which seemed envious of the order a simple staple could give to a stack of paper.

‘what the fuck is this?’ She thought to herself. She was annoyed and uneasy about all of this, mixed in was a bit of shame at Jerry bringing her sins to light. These thoughts danced in her head as she walked to her seat, standing over it timidly and looking at her feet.

“Take a seat” he said flashing a light smile- while her eyes cautiously darted up at him “you’re not in trouble.” He replies reassuringly to her, leaving her standing there awkwardly as she eventually sits cautiously.

Wasting no time, he started the conversation. “I’ll keep this short, I need someone to help keep my place clean during the week. Quite frankly I don’t care to do it since I fired my maid” His gaze drifted off as he continued. “And lucky me, I have a new maid right here, who should have no problem working for free. Correct?”

Sam hesitated for a moment. Was that it? Sure it was a tad inconvenient but it was a much better alternative then for the truth to come out. If that was it, it’d be a done deal!.. but wait there’s no way that could be it. There had to be some loophole.
“How often would I be coming over?”

***

They spent an hour going over their schedules. It would have been done sooner but after realizing a few inconsistencies in her schedule, Jerry figured out Sam was lying. After making sure she was reminded of the consequences, he got a concrete idea of her schedule. Finding out Monday, Wednesday, Friday were fairly open for both of them, however, to fit “maid service” into her schedule, she was going to have to move her gym schedule around. She had worked out those days ever since she was a teenager- it was almost engrained in her body to workout those days. However there was no arguing it and risking her secret coming out. And she figured she could just as easily move them to other days or simply workout later.

She’d agree to go over 3 times a week and straighten up his place and help with chores and sorting shelves.

The first time she came over to clean, she was distracted by how stocked everything was. His cabinets were like an aisle in a grocery store. Because of this, she found herself snacking on near empty boxes of cookies as she went, figuring she could at least enjoy herself while she cleaned.

The majority of what had to be done was sorting out papers, which seemed like it could take years. It’d be one thing if Tom tried to help or even just tried to stay away, but he seemed more like a distraction. When she's finished one day she’d come back to see he’s been adding papers to random stacks as well as “organizing” as best he could. But he only seemed to mix things up more, making the job more annoying for Sam, who’d have to bite her tongue often when this happened.

Some days she’d come in and find things were just matched seemingly at random and out inside of a folder, then another folder, and into a cabinet. At a certain point she felt like she was being fucked with, but didn’’t think that Jerry would waste his time to keep her fiddling with papers.

At the end of the night there was dinner. Tom made pasta with meatballs for dinner that night, a fairly heavy dish. He made sure that the sams plate stayed full, and she didn’t argue when he’d add more to her plate. Or better, knew not to argue.

They kept this routine for about 2 weeks before Sam noticed a few pounds begin to start piling on. That day when she was over at Jerrys, she made a point to avoid snacking and figured she’d have a light dinner. Unfortunately at dinner, Jerry wasnt exactly on board with that plan. Making a tray of lasagna, he encouraged Sam to have a large helping, which she had anticipated. Fighting down the massive chunk of cheese, meat and pasta, Sam went to use the bathroom as a tactful way to end dinner early, to come back and see her plate loaded with food again.

“Uh i think im olay Jerry, i think im going to call it a night okay, see you in 2 days!” She said as she basically tried to run for the door as casually as possible.

“Take your seat, unless you want me to blab about your boy toy on the side, you greedy bitch” He said coldly as she reached for the doorknob

Sam's face was more confused than anything else. Greedy? What does he mean? Sure she felt bad for what she was doing, but in her head- it couldn’t be helped. Doing things this way, actually made everything work out.. or so she thought. She loved tom, he was a stable and good influence however, he was a bit boring. Not like Michael, the guys she's been messaging

“You’ve always been a greedy person, taking what you can, more and more. Even with guys. You tend to be greedy. So do you want me to be a bit more clear about our deal?” He said walking around the room “you keep your boyfriend, and you keep your boy toy as well..” he said, sliding the plate toward her, “but you’re going to pay for it here.”

Looking down and not wanting to acknowledge the conversation, Sam listened carefully for what would be going on for her. She was tense but at the same time, she could accept these new rules. Sure she hated the idea of having to eat to keep her secret, but by extension, if there *was* no other way to keep it a secret, then she would. And she could just start working out on different days and everything’d be fine!...
