Chapter 4 - The journey home

The train was filled with the sounds of commotion of people speaking. From trying to phone people back home, trying to reach others the knew and speaking among themselves. The carriage that Debbie and Hailey sat in atmosphere was one of disturbance on what had just accrued not to long ago.

Debbie and Hailey, now sat on a pair of seats couldn't believe what had all just happened, Especially Hailey. Only a hour ago, she was a fit, slim women trying on different jackets, feeling the most confident she had ever been with her body. But now? Here she was, Fat once again. All her hard work and dedication... gone. She was around the size she had been when she decided to loose weight, perhaps even slightly bigger. As she sat there feeling her gut resting on her thighs. Tears filled her eyes as she broke down, and began to cry.

Debbie looked to her friend and felt pitty towards her. It wasn't fair... none of this was fair. What where those white things? And why did they fatten people up? Where just some of the thoughts that where racing in Debbie's mind as she tried to make sense of the nonsensical situation...

"Hailey..." Debbie put her hand on her now much larger Best friend "I... It will be alright... you can loose the weight again... I know it sucks but.... you gotta remain strong girl, I know your strong. It's the reason you managed to loose the weight in the first place" Debbie tried to reassure her, but she felt guilt in doing so. She hadn't been affected at all. She was still the same, untouched by the effects of those white things. Who was she to say things will be alright?..

Hailey sniffled and wiped the tears from her eyes. And looked to Debbie "Thanks Debs.... I..." she sighed "I just can't make any sense of it... what happened back there?"

"I don't know" Debbie responded "But what I do know is we're away from it... and safe" Debbie sighed hopping that that would be the last time they see those things again, whatever they are. "But at what cost?" Hailey said look at me! They made me huge again! And not only me... look around!" she gestured for Debbie to look around the carriage" It isn't just me..."

Hailey was right. As Debbie had a proper look around the carriage she seen other people who had seemingly been fattend up also. Some looking much larger than Hailey, with their clothes hardly covering their soft, plump bodies." Yeah you're right Hails..."

Debbie sighed as her phone began to buzz in her pocket. Getting a bit of a jump, Debbie quickly pulled her phone out her pocket and looked to her screen, It was Tyler her boyfriend calling

"Tyler?!" Debbie said loudly as she answered the phone. "Yeah yeah I'm fine... Hailey got hit a few times but she's with me and fine. We made it to our train and are heading home just now... What?" Debbie said with a bit of panic in her face as Hailey asked what Tyler had said "Those things.... their not just in the city...." Debbie said as suddenly passing their window was what seemed to be peice of white substance in the air going past the window. With people in the carriage screaming a little.

Tyler on the other end of the phone called Debbie's name" Tyler! I think the train just rammed into one of those things!" Debbie said looking out the window, for her to then pause with the carriage going silent. As everyone looked out to the field the train was passing with horror in their eyes... In the field they saw them... very big white things moving slowly across the land, with smaller ones breaking away from the big ones and attacking the cows in the field.

Debbie and Hailey looked, seeing fattend up cows in the fields, and some being fattend. It wasn't just people these things attacked... it seemed like all life they went after. Debbie lifted her phone back to her ear "Tyler... is there any of these things back home?" She asked as Hailey began texting her family. Tyler confirmed that there wasn't any yet, and that there had been an emergency broadcast on the TV, stating for people to stay in doors and to not go out. "Tyler, Head to mine and Hailey's place. we're about 25 minutes away from the station... No No! don't wait for us at the station! by the time we get there who knows if these things will have reached town.... You got the spare key right? Good. I'll text you when we are making are way home... Love you Tyler... bye... " Debbie sighed as she hanged up

" Tyler says there's none back home yet, but that's there's been emergency broadcasts telling everyone to stay inside" she said to Hailey who was texting her mother. "My mum says the same" Hailey stated "She's locking herself inside her house with my siblings... Oh Debs I'm worried!" Hailey said with panic in her voice "I am to Hails! I really am!" Debbie said with her voice being a little shaky. "We just have to get of this train and get back home as soon as possible" Hailey agreed as the two looked out the window, frantically waiting for the train to arrive at their stop...
