Chapter 5

Sarah was surprised on how much her and Stewart had in common. They talked for what felt like forever on what they were doing since high school, about the newest Netflix shows that had dropped recently, and sports news of the nearby city. Stewart was making Sarah laugh and giggle and was turning the entire night around for Sarah to have someone who had so much in common with and could talk for hours. Sarah knew that Stewart had to be taken but didn't want to straight up ask on his relationship status in case it was the answer that she did not want to hear. "So, where is Mrs. Smith tonight?" asked Sarah hoping to find out if this man was taken or if she had a slim chance of making a move.

Stewart looked at the ground "You know," he paused "I had a long-term girlfriend for a lot of college and most of the time after and found out she was having an affair with another man fairly recently" he said with somber tone in his voice. "So, I decided to move back home to get closer to family and look for a new fresh start sort of." Sarah had felt like an idiot for asking that question when the wounds were still fresh from his last relationship, and from the way he responded to the question it was not the right time to make a move on him. "But that is all in the past now and I'm ready to move forward now," he said in his more upbeat tone that he had been using that night. Sarah went to touch Stewart’s hand, "well that girl is a real idiot if she were to treat you like that," Sarah said coming from deep in her heart.

A knock came at the door forcing both individuals to turn their heads towards it. It was a janitor that opened the door and told them the reunion was over and that they need to vacate the school. Sarah felt a great disappointment, here was a guy that made her feel-good tonight, and it was over before she was able to enjoy it. "Well, we better get going, it was nice seeing you again, I had a really great time." Sarah told Stewart as she started to make her way out the door. "Wait," said Stewart with an almost raised tone in his voice, "you know there is a nice bar about a couple blocks from here if you are interested in keeping this conversation going?" he asked with a voice and look on his face that Sarah just couldn't say no to. "Yes, of course I've had a great time so far."
