chapter 3 the first day

Jason got up early on his first full day of married life, in their new house. He made breakfast for them both, but he made sure that his cereal was low sugar and with skimmed milk, while Sarah's was tasty cinnamon grahams, served with creamy whole milk and a little extra sugar. It was sugary enough as it was. A little extra was not going to make that much difference to the taste, but it would have the effect he wanted on her body - eventually. He made her coffee, with whole milk instead of skimmed. She normally did not take any sugar in it, but he added less than half a teaspoon. He also made her some toast, with real butter and proper jam. Then took everything up to her in bed. He woke her sleeping form and waited for her to sit up before giving her the tray of food. Then he got back in next to her. He took his bowl of tasteless muesli with no sugar and skimmed milk and ate that. He said he'd already eaten his toast. His coffee was black with no sugar.
Sleepily, she tucked into the meal. She was still so tired she did not notice the extra sugar and the extra creaminess of the milk. She just knew it tasted good.
They chatted about things happening in the news as they ate.
Jason got up again as soon as he had finished to have a shower. When he returned, he found Sarah had dozed off again. He smiled. She was not her best in the mornings. He would leave her there until she woke up naturally. Good job it was Sunday!
By the time Sarah came downstairs, Jason had been for a swim, put the meat on to slow cook in the oven, prepared all the vegetables and the Yorkshire pudding mixture, vacuumed all the floors downstairs and set the table for their Sunday dinner.
She kissed him and hugged him to show her appreciation.
Jason was careful how he served the meal. The two plates looked very similar, but Sarah's plate had gravy on it made from all the tasty juices (and fats) from the meat, while his gravy was made from granules. Her plate had one extra slice of meat and one extra potato. If she said anything, he'd just tell her he had not been counting.
Sarah enjoyed the meal, not noticing the difference in the two plates.
A fruit pudding followed. Her portion was slightly larger than his. He served hers with a dollop of cream, and an extra spoonful of sugar, while his had a dollop of healthy yoghurt and no extra sugar.
He followed that up with coffee, exactly as he had served it that morning.
After the meal, he encouraged her to go through to the living room and put on a good film, while he did the dishes and tidied up. Sunday afternoons were all about relaxation, after all.
He was pleased when he found her sprawled out on the sofa having a doze after her big meal. Jason had no intention in disturbing her. He had all the washing and ironing to do after their honeymoon. He had the suitcases to put away in the loft and all the ironing to put away before he even started on tea.
He made Sarah's sandwiches with real butter, while his were made with low fat spread. Hers had a little more filling than his. Her cup of tea was made with whole milk and a smidgin' of sugar and her slice of cake was slightly larger than his.
Afterwards, they snuggled up and cuddled. Sarah had never had such a lazy day since her childhood and she had needed it after that awful flight home the day before.
Jason didn't gave time to sit for long. He had the tea dishes to load in the dishwasher and he still had lots of washing to get through before tomorrow. He left her watching the 'Antiques Roadshow' still lying about languidly.
It was nine o'clock when the washing and ironing was finally done. He handed her a sweet alcoholic cocktail he'd made for her, while he sipped at his water with only a splash of whisky in it. His drink had only enough of the whisky in it to make the water coloured. It was so weak it was barely alcoholic.
He sat down next to her while they watched a good period drama on the telly.
When their glasses were empty, he refilled them both and opened up a box of chocolates left over from the wedding. He gave her double the chocolates that he consumed. She did not notice. She was too wrapped up in the drama and too squiffy from the cocktails. That was exactly the way he wanted it.
