Chapter 1: childhood and adolescence

It's been over 15 years since I met my best friend May. She was only 9 years old and I was 14 years old at the time. As kids we often played outside with the other kids and had so much fun. Games like hide and seek, tag and cycling were great. Later, when we got a little older, we still played regularly like hide and seek and various tag games (still do) but also board games, Mario Kart on Nintendo DS and card games. All young people and children in the area were slim or of normal build. Everyone except May. She was slightly plumper than the rest. I remembered well that when she saw us playing outside, she immediately came out and walked over to us. She wasn't very sporty, so she walked instead of running.

Later, most of them started puberty. They became more involved in their studies and socialized more with other friends at school. My other good friend Anna was moving to another part of the Netherlands. So I had less contact with the others than before. They were there for me, just a little less. There was only one person who still had regular time with me. Right, that was May. We still regularly played board games, card games and quizzes. One time at her house, and the other time at my house. Our houses were only 50 meters apart so meeting up was very easy to arrange.

I realized in our puberty that she was a bit fuller. I knew she used to be a bit chubby, but she seemed to have plumped up a bit. It must be because we stopped playing outside. Her life became lazier and much more relaxed. She used to swim, but she had already stopped doing that. That made me think that's why she was getting fuller… and I started to find her more attractive too. We had a very nice connection with each other. Lots of fun, fun, nice conversations. And then I knew for sure… May was my best friend.

We had been through many more things together, both good times and bad times. Also experienced enough things about May's weight, size and eating habits.
