Fat experiences

Anybody here played a sport, got really fat, then tried to play it again

Just wondering if anybody has had the same experience as me

I used to play a ton of soccer/football when I was younger and I was on slightly chubby back then.I tried playing it again over 5 years later and over 100 pounds heavier and it really put into perspective how much bigger and slow ive gotten ,as well as how terrible my cardio is unsurprisingly. The only thing I kept were my skill moves and tricks I could do but I get out of breath after less than a minute.

I would like to hear anybody's story's similar to mine.

Ditzy:
I played girls softball in high school ( 110 lbs) and tried to play on a company team at work @ ( 220 lbs) I was too out of shape.

There’s just something about softball players, too. They’re already thicker than pretty much all athletes. Then the muscles give way to fat later in life and they’re so sexy :-)

interesting view on skills vs fitness. a friend of mine who used to be a track & field runner in school at a competitive level, then got fat later as an adult when i met him, told me that he still had the speed - just not the endurance! which sounds like your experience.

i wasn't into sports so much as weight lifting and cardio at the gym... at 150-160 i was really fit, in great shape. then i took a break and porked up to 220 - when i tried to go back, my loss of strength, stamina and flexibility was really shocking to me. i felt completely out of place, i felt really embarrassed. having to get off the treadmill after just a few minutes because i felt like i was dying was a real shock!

now i am more than twice that size, and i don't know how i would even get up from the bench after trying a bench press!

The thing I noticed most with since playing football in college vs.many years later, was the running. I could get running and feel like my big gut and heavier body by 100+ pounds seemed to get going really fast with the extra weight and momentum but when it came to slowing down that was a different story- I know plowed through opponents trying to stop playing flag for fun.

Wow wild tread and very relatable.

I used to do capoeira and Kickboxing and i like to think i was decently fit.
After my initial gain i noticed doing handstands got a big heavier to do since there is more weight to carry. What i after gaining even more did not expect was how out of shape i would be. You feel your belly just move and be a bit in the way. Also injured my knee due to being to heavy i guess.
Well now ill just lose weight and train to recover.... Or stuff myself and get even fatter (more likely)

I used to run track, play soccer, and basketball. I know running is out of the question for me now. But I have been putting on a lot of muscle *and* fat.

So when I was invited to "shoot some hoops" not even play a game, I thought, no problem. I went to do a layup, and I got NO AIR. Like, there's no upward motion. I felt like a BRICK. It shocked me. I tried a few more times, and I was told I went up an inch, maybe two. 😳🤣

I'm also stronger and lost my touch for the net, I was blasting them off the backboard, throwing bricks, it was hilarious. 🏀

🦏 I'm a bloody rhino.

I played rec softball when I was around 270 years ago, was really athletic for near 300lbs, didn’t have really any problems out there. Fast forward to a year ago and now I’m 425, I thought it would be a good idea to join my friends team after doing nothing athletically for years, it was pretty embarrassing lol. I still had the instincts from playing and could still hit but running felt so difficult, running to first felt like it took forever. I had to call for a runner every time. Knowing I couldn’t run I had to play catcher.

Before Covid i was training for a half marathon.
Broke my ankle before the shut down and spent the next year and a half trying to get back to what i was before but instead just kept packing it on.
Tried the elliptical a few months ago.
I was too heavy for it but tried anyway and it took literaly 15-30 seconds before I thought I would pass out
