I've used a metal frame since I broke a flimsy twin bed as a teenager while vacationing at a lake cabin. I chose the bed I have for other reasons too, including aesthetic ones, but it's also held up well as I've continued to gain. I have noticed though, I can't cut corners on cheap mattresses. They flatten and develop indents in no time.
Definitely, I spent money on a really good mattress last year that wouldn't dent easy under 500 pounds of fat. I bought a Divan but just been thinking lately to invest in metal because the wood is already creaking a bit and I've only had it over a year or maybe I just bought the wrong type because Divan beds usually last me alot longer.
