Theme of the month - september

Thank you to everyone who participated in the questions last month. I hope it was interesting to someone. At least it was different. Back to writing this month, though.

Prompted by talk in another thread, the September theme is unrealistic weight gain. So think old-school flavor: magic potions, curses, science experiments gone wrong. Let your imagination go wild, or come up with something completely different, we're just aiming for more fantasy than reality.

A chapter or two is great, more if the muse takes you.

If you're going to participate, please post in the thread and link to the story so people can read it and give feedback. Please keep critiques constructive, but please do critique! You all write amazing stuff and it's important to be recognized.

If you feel stuck and want to brainstorm, feel free to use the thread to chat.

The rules of the event are the same as always:

1) In addition to being about weight gain or body positivity, stay on the monthly theme, which should be easy because the topics will be very wide and open to interpretation.
2) Try to stick to something under 5,000 words, but if the muse overtakes you, that's great, too!
3) Post in the thread! Let us know if you're playing, have questions, want to chat, and when you have a story to share. Post a link!
4) Just like with all the stories on this site, zero characterizations of minors are allowed. Hate and bigotry have no place in this event.
5) Feedback by authors and readers is very welcome, but keep it constructive. All different skill levels of writers are encouraged to participate, so I ask everyone to be helpful and encouraging. If you've never given (or received) constructive criticism for creative writing before, here's a short essay that could be helpful: www.marykole.com/constructive-criticism

Happy writing!

Theme of the month - september

Been out of it for a while (busy summer), but this months theme just so happened to line up with a silly idea I'd had a while back. Its very surface level, but hits those magical and instant gains that remind us of the stories from the dim days. Will wrap up the next chapter or so for each in the follow days to complete them. And of course I did a his and hers because I like it all haha.

Let me know what you thought if you give either a read.

Great start and ambitious as always!

I had wanted to lean into the creepy Coraline aspect of it all by making an indulgent world on the other side of the mirror. But ultimately decided to focus on a more romantic and personal discovery type story. I think I definitely avoided a pitfall of writing a story I had no interest in finishing by doing so.

I marked it as lesbian, but there are no sexual elements, it’s strictly romance with all sexuality focused on the mutual gain. Biromantic would probably be better suited if the tag existed.

This is a really interesting premise with some nice character work for a short piece. I can really see a progression in your storytelling from your earlier stories!

Agreed, interesting concept with some physics questions to work around that I think you’ve handled nicely. Some nice little touches on how the mirror world works and how things flip without getting too into the weeds on it.

So it’s October, we should probably do something scary, next, right?

Nice work as always! A real fun idea with potential for exploration beyond just a fun quick one off. Love the homage to the malls of our past and the rather abrupt ending had me chuckling ha. Where to take the story from here? Zombies
