Weight gain without fatphobia

Without reading your piece, I'd agree that it seems like the kind of story that at least rhymes with fatphobia. Those "wouldn't it be a great revenge if she got fat" plots usually are, even when the character enjoys it, or whatever.

Since "revenge weight gain" is such a popular trope, maybe satirizing the genre would be a way to do it as a commentary on fatphobia in fat fic rather than just as porn? Satire can be powerful stuff.

(fyi, i do think it's possible to make feedist stories that aren't fatphobic. I like to think i've written several, but I know many of my friends have)

I think you have a point with making it a satire. Interestingly enough, this started as a response to the book "Life in the Fat Lane", which has a pretty similar premise to mine, witchcraft and college setting notwithstanding. I read that story and thought, "what if this story was GOOD", and added a spellcast element that the og book kindof already had, and made it more intentional. And while my story is comedic, parody isn't my strong suit. It might be difficult for me to do that without it coming across as a rip-off.[/quote]

Yeah, good satire is an art form.

You already think that your story is moving outside of fatphobic tropes, though? Can you just keep working with it the way it’s going?

Weight gain without fatphobia

BigBellyBurgerBoy1:
What are some examples of stories with a character gaining weight that don't come off as fatphobic? In the writing world (and in every other world, for that matter), it's very rare when a story portrays someone gaining weight and it isn't a joke or a punishment, like being heavier is the worst thing somebody can be.

I'm writing a story where a witch character (well, witch adjacent), casts a spell on a mean girl to gain weight, eating things she would never eat before, in larger and larger quantities, until she gains more and more weight as a result. Now, by that premise alone, you could tell that fatphobia is baked into it from the start, but I believe there's a way to do it without it being so, but I'm just not sure how to do it.

For more context, the witch character herself is fat, a college student who gets bullied by the aforementioned mean girl (yes it happens in college too, not just high school), who stumbles upon witchcraft one day while doing research for a term paper, and (half) jokingly casts a spell on the mean girl to fatten her up. Oh, and the mean girl is the other " protagonist" of the story, so it's from both perspectives. They both learn some harsh lessons throughout the story, but come out of it wiser than before. At least, that's the idea.

What do you think? Can weight gain without fatphobia be done in a story, and done well? Can it work in a story like this? Let me know your thoughts, I'd love to hear some feedback on it.

I am an esports enjoyer, and I love history. I have been doing my own personal research and I'm contemplating writing my own article on a topic I really think needs covered!

Letters And Numbers:
I like to write fiction, and maybe some day can move that away from just being a hobby into something else, but for the time being it's much more on the hobby side of the ledger. Right now I'm working on a story for the new Fantasy Feeder anthology that comes out later this year, which I'm excited about (1st draft is almost done!). That's a historical story, so there was a bit of research that went into it. It's still a short story, so I won't say a *lot* of research, but I like things to be accurate.

I also have a new episodic story I posted a few chapters of here in the past few weeks that I'm pretty proud of, sort of a thriller/horror story, and a couple more feedist-type stories up my sleeve that I will probably share soon. And then I have some non-kink writing that I do, too.

AgaMcBees:
you should try your luck and try and get something published! I'd love to see some of your non-kink related writing. Always looking for a good read.

Well, I have a novel here that I think is pretty good, more than welcome to check it out!

Feederism for vegans

I was just talking to someone earlier about vegetarian cooking, and I suggested that my favorite cookbook is Sundays at Moosewood's. It's largely vegan, and I've never cooked something from it that's not good. So you might get some ideas there!

Tell me something good

AgaMcBees:
What's something good that happened to you today?
Getting off work early is my highlight.

Enas:
This is a simingly simple question but i have difficulty with answering it in a similarly simple manner. I dont think that good things are just an absence of bad things (ie. Getting off work early is not a good thing, but rather its a not-bad thing. Which is great and opens up the space for good things to happen but i dont think we should categorise it as a good thing itself). And i want to make that distinction between things that are not bad and things that are actually good! For example a hug is a good thing! A calm moment, in the sense of a moment that doesnt have rush, anxiety, horror etc, is not a good thing itself its only a not bad thing. People might look at it that way but thats only when they compare things. So its not very objective.

Getting off work early can absolutely be a good thing! Not sure what you’re talking about here, but please don’t try to pigeonhole or categorize other user’s experiences in this thread, except to celebrate them. And no more discussion is needed on this particular issue. Back to the topic.

Theme(s) of the month - july

The silly song fleshed out into a reasonably short story. Probably way exceeded the word limit, but they were quite interesting characters to write.

The title comes from the Sting song... Which probably sets the tone

Letters And Numbers:
Ok, setting the bar very high here. I loved this story. The perfect size for something like this. The humor in chapter 2 was great and you have an excellent way of building tension, then spinning it all around at the end. Bravo.

Tayto:
Thanks for kind words ♥️ I just wonder now what it would take for my stories to get more popular lol

That’s a black box algorithm I haven’t figured out yet.
