The own-photo viewing thing is a bug, which should be corrected during the FF update, which will be implemented around the end of the year.

People will be able to search profiles by location, so you'll be able to find all the members in your area.

The map was removed since it was linked to Google, who was updating their own maps. Location search will return in the next FF update.
