"Wow thanks!" Becca hardly waited a moment to dig in. She hoped it was as good as the éclair, and she was not disappointed. The cookie was chewy and sweet. "I could get used to this."
More cars started to pull in and Becca was pulled from her moment with the cookie.
"This town is taking to us real well. How about it, do you think you can handle the job."
"No problem ma'am," Becca said proudly. "I've got this."
For the rest of the day, Becca worked the window and enjoyed a "small" snack here and there. Tracy would drop off a donut or a cookie. Always something new and Becca just could not wait to try it. By the end of the day, she was a pro at the drive thru.
"Well that's it girls!" Tracy yelled out as she shut the doors. "I don't know how I can thank you, you have been a great help. We will be starting early tomorrow. I know school will be starting soon but if I can have you guys here for the morning rush it would be great."
"No problem auntie, our classes don't start until 8:30 anyways so we can help out till then."
"I will have you guys I the system and paid for today, but here each of you take one of hese for the hard work." Tracy handed Liz and Becca a pie each. They were lemon meringue with a large helping of meringue on top.
Liz laughed, "Uh thanks, maybe my mom and sis will want some."
Becca looked it over, "Me too, boy will my mom be surprised."
The girls headed home. Becca and Beth chatted about the wonderful food at the restaurant. Liz couldn't help but notice the slight bulge from her friends belly.
"Better slow down with the snacking though Becca, you don't want to get too big before school starts. I hear Michael has been looking your way lately."
"Oh I'll be fine Liz, you just don't know how good it was."
Becca walked home and saw her mother. She had been working on her computer all day.
"Hi Rebecca, what do you have there?"
"A job." Rebecca told her mom about her day, and her new job a McFaddens.
Well that's good honey, plus you get to work with your friends. So, lets try some of that pie."
Rebecca set the pie on the table and grabbed some plates and forks. She served her mom a slice, and then herself. The meringue was firm and jiggly. She took a bite and it was so sweet and the lemon a perfect sour to mix. Rebecca and her mother savored every bite. They talked more about each other's day enjoying the pie as they went on. Neither of them noticed the fact that after they had finished the pie on their plates, the began to eat directly from the tin. Their forks crossed at one point bringing the two out of their stupor.
"Oh lord, did we just eat that whole thing. It was just so good."
"I told you mom, and now I am exhausted I have to go to bed. I have to go to work tomorrow."
Becca went up to her room, as her mother scraped the last bits of the pie. Rebecca caught a glimpse of herself in her mirror. She noticed the small bulge of her belly. It was hard and full from her day of snacking. Rather than feel disgusted, she instead moved to her bed, rubbing her stomach, and thought over each and ever delicacy she had tasted that day. The flavors played over in her head and on her tongue as she slowly drifted off to sleep.
