Chapter 6

That weekend was one big blur. All I could think about was kissing Amber. The way her lips pressed against me, the way my hands sank into her love handles, the smile on her beautiful face. I wish I was smart enough to ask for her number because I would have called or texted to see how she was doing. She was the first girl I legitimately cared for in a long time and I didn't want to screw it up.

Then a bombshell was dropped on me. After class I caught Amber in the cafeteria and she had a half frown, half forced smile when I sat next to her.

"Hi, is something wrong?"

She kind of nodded "Yes, well no. I mean...not really."

I put my hand on her shoulder "If there's something bothering you, I'm always here for you."

She forced a smile "Its not really going to bother me, its more like going to bother you. My ex is back in town for a few days to visit family. He's coming over today."

I took my hand off her shoulder, felt like I was hit with a torpedo. "Oh, I see."

Amber then put her hand on mine "I'm sorry. I didn't know he was coming until yesterday."

"That's my fault, first rule is always get the girl's number. I should have asked you for it Friday....could I have it now?"

Amber finally cracked a legitimate smile "Yes, yes. Here." I pulled out my phone and punched it in. Finally! "Thanks so much Amber."

She smiled again "If you don't call me, I'm gonna sit on you!"

She laughed and I said "That's supposed to be a bad thing?"

She punched my shoulder playfully "Oh shut up!"

When time came for us to leave, I began to get sad because I thought I was so close to finding the right girl and the hands of fate delivered her ex back into her life. It wouldn't bother me if they broke up for real but they didn't. For all I know they were going to get back together. Her mom didn't like me as it was but she liked him. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. As she left I wanted to tell her I was jealous because I really liked her but I held back. What's the worse that could happen, they elope and run way? Oh God why did I even think that?

The next day Amber was smiling from ear to ear and I could only assume the worst. Its a good thing I was so wrapped up with what happened with Amber to notice Mr Kuipers shouting invectives at me all day. Eventually I made it to the end of class and when Amber came up to me I expected the bad news.

"Hi Amber, how are you?" I asked

"Very good! My ex and I had a great time last night."

I tried to be polite but was straining "That's good. Glad you had a good time."

"It was awesome, he truly is an amazing guy." She said practically beaming.

I don't think I could take it much more but I tried "That's good."

"I'm so glad he's back."

I finally snapped "I'm getting a little jealous over here."

She laughed a little bit "Oh don't be. He wants to meet you."

*RECORD NEEDLE SCRATCH*

"Um...what?"

&quo t;He said he wants to meet you. I told him how great you've been treating me and he's interested in meeting you."

Did NOT see that one coming. "Ypu mean you told your ex how great I was?" I asked puzzled.

"Yes, why wouldn't I?" She asked with a sincere smile.

"I'm not used to girls telling their ex's they like someone else."

Amber laughed "I wouldn't have kissed you if I felt there wasn't something special between us."

I took a shot "I've been wanting to do it again all weekend."

Amber smiled and leaned in "What's stopping you?"

We kissed. Longer and more passionately than before. She shifted her body to where she was straddling the bench with her plump thighs and butt hung off the sides a tiny bit. My hands stroked her soft, luscious love handles as our lips pressed against each other. She began to growl and then stopped herself.

"Oh, um...excuse me, got a little too hot. I'm sorry."

I was taken aback and breathing heavy. "I'm..sorry?"

She giggled "No, don't be sorry. Look I have to go, you should come by tomorrow and meet him."

"I'll do it, take care Amber."

"See ya Jake"

As she left I thought about her ex. If she liked me as much as I liked her, and she was still this happy to see her ex....this guy must be really special. I'm willing to fight for my woman even though she's not really my woman and probably would get my ass kicked, but the point is she was too special to let get away. It was on to tomorrow to meet the mysterious ex who held the key to Amber's heart.
