Chapter 1: Echoes in the Dark_Part 1: The Quest for the Treasure
Hello everyone, here we will begin with the second story,"Cael, your light is flickering again," Seraphina's voice cut through the silence, laden with icy disdain.
She didn't even turn to look at him, keeping her upright posture.
"You are centuries old, elf. Honestly, I expected much more from you than tavern tricks. If you cannot maintain a simple constant illumination spell, I wonder why I brought you. You are barely a hindrance."
Cael lowered his gaze, his pointy ears drooping slightly. "I'm sorry, Lady Seraphina. I will concentrate more," he muttered, feeling a lump in his throat and clenching his fists inside his sleeves.
The group arrived at a wide circular chamber that seemed safe and decided to stop to catch their breath. Seraphina immediately stepped away towards a ruined statue, ignoring the rest of the group with an air of superiority. Cael sat on a crumbled rock, rubbing his hands to revive his faint magical flow. It was then that Elara, the agile archer of the group, approached him.
Elara had a warm smile and, since the journey began, her eyes often sought the small elf with a frequency that betrayed an interest far beyond simple companionship. "Don't pay attention to her, Cael," the archer said softly, offering him a waterskin as she sat beside him. Their shoulders brushed slightly. "Seraphina only sees raw power because it's the only thing she has in her head. She doesn't realize that without your tracking spells we would have fallen into three traps yesterday. You are valuable to us... to me." His face took on a slight crimson hue.
His natural shyness surfaced, making him look away slightly, but he gave her a sincere smile, his large purple eyes shining with gratitude at finding some comfort in her. "Thank you, Elara. Truly, I needed to hear that. Sometimes it's hard to be in her shadow, but I will do my best to protect you all." The archer smiled back, gently squeezing his arm before standing up.
"Alright, enough resting!" Seraphina's imperious voice ordered, breaking the moment. She stood at her full height, making the base of her staff echo against the stone floor.
"The core of the dungeon is near. I feel the magic vibrating in the air. Let's move." Cael stood up, renewed by the archer's words, and adjusted his belt full of small magical components. The group reformed, delving deeper into the depths, hoping to find the dungeon's secrets, unaware that what awaited them in the dark would change their destinies forever.
