Chapter 1 - The Cursed Chair
[The Eberhardt Manor, dining hall, October evening, candlelit]The rain had turned the roads to black ribbons of mud by the time Lady Jennifer of House Eberhardt watched the rival carriage pass beneath her gate.
Perfect.
She stood in the great hall with practiced elegance, every servant drilled to perfection, every silver plate polished until it reflected the candlelight. At the far end of the dining chamber rested an ancient oaken chair whose carved arms resembled grasping vines. Its wood was darker than the rest of the furnishings, almost drinking in the light around it. The seat was wider than a standard dining chair, built for something more substantial than a noblewoman's modest frame. Few knew its history. Fewer survived it unchanged.
Jennifer smiled as the steward announced, "Lady Daniel of House Falken."
Daniel entered with a composed bow, removing damp riding gloves one finger at a time. She was lean and sharp-featured, her figure maintained through years of courtly discipline-hips narrow enough to slip through crowded ballrooms, a backside so slight her riding breeches clung with tailored precision.
"My lady."
"My guest."
They exchanged the sort of smiles that never reached the eyes.
"I trust your journey was pleasant?"
"As pleasant as one can expect while traveling toward someone who has publicly questioned one's claim to the prince."
Jennifer laughed softly.
"I merely questioned whether affection should outweigh political necessity."
"How charitable."
She gestured toward the dining table.
"Please. Sit."
Daniel hesitated.
She had expected something.
Jennifer noticed the pause with quiet satisfaction.
She suspects something... good.
Daniel's eyes drifted around the room before settling upon the empty chair nearest the fire.
Without a word she crossed toward it.
Jennifer felt her pulse quicken.
Yes...
Then Daniel frowned.
"Actually..."
She turned toward another seat.
"The light is better over there."
Jennifer's heart skipped.
"No, no," she said too quickly. "That chair is warmer."
Daniel studied her.
"So eager to seat me?"
Jennifer forced an embarrassed smile.
"I simply wish my guest comfortable."
Daniel inclined her head.
"If you insist."
Jennifer moved to pull the chair out.
As she did, a servant hurried behind her carrying a tray. Jennifer stepped aside to avoid colliding with him.
Daniel politely held another chair.
"Please."
Jennifer barely looked before sitting.
The ancient oak creaked.
For several minutes they discussed weather, harvests, and court gossip.
Neither woman noticed anything unusual.
Elsewhere in the manor, however, silent figures dressed in dark cloaks slipped through servant passages.
Daniel's hidden escort worked quickly.
Kitchen staff disappeared without cries.
The guards at the doors were relieved of their weapons.
Within minutes, Jennifer's household no longer controlled the manor.
Back in the dining room, Jennifer poured wine.
"So," she said pleasantly, "shall we finally discuss Prince Albrecht?"
Daniel smiled.
"Gladly."
"I believe he deserves stability."
"I believe he deserves honesty."
Jennifer chuckled.
"Those sound remarkably similar."
"They do."
A sharp ping!
Something metallic skipped across the tabletop.
Both women looked down.
One of Daniel's brass trouser buttons spun to a stop beside the bread basket.
Silence.
Daniel blinked.
"...How odd."
She rose.
The leather across her hips protested with a chorus of strained stitching.
Rrrrip.
Several seams split at once.
Daniel froze.
Her hand drifted uncertainly to her waist.
"My clothes..."
Jennifer covered her mouth.
"Oh."
Then another laugh escaped.
"I do beg your pardon."
Daniel looked down.
Her normally fitted riding clothes had become inexplicably tight around the hips and seat. The fabric stretched across her backside with uncomfortable pressure, her buttocks now pressing outward with undeniable fullness. Her belt dug into her middle, but the real strain was lower-her breeches had grown drum-tight across her rear, the seams screaming.
She frowned.
"This wasn't so snug when I arrived."
Jennifer couldn't hide her satisfaction.
"What an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction."
Daniel slowly looked at the chair.
Then back to Jennifer.
Understanding dawned.
"So."
Jennifer smiled sweetly.
"You've always been perceptive."
Daniel sighed.
"I had hoped I was mistaken."
She raised one hand.
A single snap of her fingers echoed through the hall.
Doors burst open.
Armored retainers flooded into the chamber.
Jennifer spun around.
"What-"
Her expression collapsed.
"My guards-"
"Tied."
"My servants-"
"Safe," Daniel replied calmly. "Merely restrained."
Jennifer backed away.
"You planned this."
"I suspected you had."
Daniel glanced at the cursed chair.
"I simply prepared for either outcome."
The guards seized Jennifer before she reached the doorway.
"You cannot be serious!"
"Oh, I am."
Jennifer struggled.
"You've already suffered enough!"
Daniel looked down at herself with mild annoyance.
Her hips had spread significantly, her buttocks now round and heavy, pressing against the torn fabric of her riding clothes. She could feel the cellulite dimpling her outer thighs, the flesh soft and unfamiliar. She turned slightly, feeling the new weight shift. It was... substantial. Her rear had become a proper shelf, wide enough that she would need to turn sideways to fit through narrow doorways. She touched her hip, feeling the give of fresh fat, the way her hand sank into softness that had not existed an hour ago.
"I've suffered embarrassment," she said, her voice steady despite the heat in her cheeks. "And perhaps a ruined pair of breeches."
Her gaze hardened.
"You intended something far worse."
The guards lowered Jennifer into the carved chair.
"No!"
Leather straps crossed her wrists.
Her ankles.
Her waist.
She fought until she realized the chair itself felt warm.
Almost alive.
"No..."
The wood answered with another slow creak.
Jennifer felt a pressure build low in her body, centered in her hips and backside. It started as a warmth, then a swelling, then an undeniable expansion. She looked down just in time to see the fabric across her waist stretch-not from her belly, but from behind, her buttocks pressing outward, filling the seat, then spilling over the edges.
"No..."
Another minute passed.
The pressure built relentlessly around her lower body. Her hips widened, flesh spreading like dough rising in a warm oven. Her skirts settled differently, the fabric pulling tight across her backside, the seams groaning. Her breathing grew shallow as she felt herself grow against the carved wood, her ass becoming heavy, ponderous, unladylike.
"This... this cannot..."
The seams along her sleeves groaned-but the real destruction was lower. The fabric across her hips surrendered first, stitches popping in rapid succession. Her underwear, fine silk, strained to contain the avalanche of flesh, then split along the seams. She felt the cool air of the hall against her expanding bare skin, the cellulite dimpled and textured, her buttocks growing heavy and wide.
One stitch gave way.
Then another.
Daniel watched silently.
"There it is."
Jennifer's composure cracked.
"Make it stop!"
"I cannot."
"You have the chair!"
"I have the chair," Daniel agreed quietly.
"I do not command its curse."
Jennifer twisted against the bindings.
Each movement made her clothing pull tighter, but worse-each movement made her hips shift and spread, the fat settling, jiggling, growing. She could feel her buttocks pressing against the carved arms of the chair, her hips so wide they touched both sides. The wood creaked ominously.
The fine tailoring that had fit perfectly that morning now strained visibly across her lower body. Her bodice remained relatively trim, but below her waist, she had become something obscene. A row of stitches along her side surrendered with a sharp tear, exposing the pale, dimpled flesh of her hip.
She squeezed her eyes shut.
"My dress..."
She remembered every whispered conversation at court.
Every impossible expectation.
Every noblewoman judged for the smallest imperfection.
The prince will see me.
They'll all see me.
A woman of her size-no, a woman of her shape-would never be accepted. It was one thing to be plump, to carry a little extra in the bosom or the belly. But to be so wide in the hips, so heavy in the seat, to have buttocks that spilled over chair edges and thighs that rubbed together with every step... it was vulgar. Common. The prince would recoil. He would see her not as a noblewoman but as a tavern wench, a milkmaid, some broad-hipped creature built for breeding rather than ruling.
She could feel the cellulite on her outer thighs, the orange-peel texture that no amount of oils or baths could smooth. Her skin felt tight, then loose, then tight again as the fat accumulated, layer upon layer. The chair groaned beneath her, the ancient oak protesting the load.
Daniel's expression softened-not with pity, but with weary understanding.
"You wished this upon me."
Jennifer opened tear-filled eyes.
"I..."
Her answer died in her throat.
Because it was true.
And now she was becoming the thing she had meant to create in her rival-a woman defined by the width of her hips, the weight of her ass, the vulgarity of her proportions. She could feel her hips spreading wider, inch by inch, the fat accumulating until her sides pressed against the carved arms. Her buttocks had become immense, soft and heavy, hanging over the front and sides of the seat. She was so wide now that the chair itself seemed small beneath her, her hips spilling over the edges like rising dough over a pan.
The straps were finally cut.
Jennifer lurched forward, but standing proved unexpectedly difficult. Her center of gravity had shifted, her hips so wide, her ass so heavy that she teetered. She pushed herself upright on the second attempt, breathing hard, shaken by how unfamiliar her own balance felt. Her hips swayed with every movement, her thighs rubbing together, the cellulite dimpling with each step. She took one tentative step and felt her buttocks shift, heavy and ponderous, the weight of them pulling at her lower back.
She stared at her reflection in the polished silver serving platter lying upon the table.
The woman staring back still wore Jennifer's face.
But below her waist, she was monstrous. Her hips spread like a shelf, her buttocks round and vast, dimpled with cellulite, the flesh soft and pale. Her riding skirt had torn completely, hanging in strips around hips that could no longer be contained by any conventional tailoring. She looked like a fertility statue, a caricature of womanhood, everything exaggerated below the waist.
She no longer recognized the certainty in her own face.
Only fear.
The chair creaked again-then cracked. A sharp splintering sound echoed through the hall as the ancient oak gave way beneath the memory of what had just sat upon it. The carved arms split from the seat, the wood shattered by the pressure of hips too wide, an ass too heavy.
Jennifer stared at the broken chair, then down at herself.
Daniel approached.
"I'll be taking what's left of the chair."
Jennifer looked up.
"Please..."
Daniel rested a hand upon the splintered wood.
"No family should possess this."
The retainers lifted the ruined chair onto a wagon.
Jennifer remained kneeling in the silent hall as the doors closed behind them, her knees spread wide by the bulk of her hips, her ass resting on her heels, heavy and warm and obscene. She tried to rise but found her balance impossible-her center of gravity had shifted too far, her hips too wide, her buttocks too vast. She fell back onto the rushes, her hips splayed, her torn clothing exposing the dimpled, cellulite-ridden flesh of her thighs and backside.
The candles flickered.
The rain continued outside.
And for the first time in her carefully ordered life, Jennifer realized that schemes meant to destroy another could leave the deepest scars upon the one who devised them-carved not into her skin, but into the very shape of her body, wide and vulgar and impossible to hide.
She touched her hip, her hand sinking into softness, and wept.
