..and in scripts...but other than that, saying "Leslie puts the food down." doesn't sound good unless you're doing it from the correct perspective...

I agree with the comment about present tense being used in "Choose Your Own Adventure" scenarios...

The only time you can really write in present tense is when you're writing from the perspective of the character. But...that's really hard to pull off.
