Chapter 2 - the plot "thickens"

Walking through the park, Gene picked the perfect spot and time, then dropped down on one knee, and nervously fumbled through the little speech he had prepared. Hailey was thrilled, almost shrieking "YES!" at the top of her lungs, though the response had never really been in doubt. They were crazy about each other and both Gene and Hailey had been looking forward to this day from the moment they started dating. The newly engaged couple headed back to her parent's house where Gene had secretly arranged with Hailey's parents a little informal engagement celebration with the rest of her family. Hailey was the oldest daughter, and the 2nd out of 3 children. She was 24, her older brother Michael was 26 and married, her younger sister Lindsey was next in line at 21.

While Michael, her parents, and Gene were all down in the basement drinking, shooting pool, and carrying on, Hailey leaned comfortably back in her chair at the kitchen table sipping her 4th glass of wine, and chatting with Lindsey who was on her 5th. They had been talking about bridesmaids, flowers and possible wedding locations when Hailey mentioned she didn't even know where to begin searching to find a dress. Lindsey chuckled deviously and said "just make sure whatever you get, it can be let out just in case you end up like mom!"
"Shut up!" Hailey giggled, taking a long sip from her glass. "Seriously though, do you think it'll happen to you too?" Lindsey prodded. "What? Do I think WHAT will happen to me?" Hailey said indignantly, knowing full well what Lindsey had been referring to.

"Well...mom, grandma, aunt Liz, our cousin Sarah...you know..." Lindsey said, dancing around the topic. "They were all very pretty, very thin, very much like you are sis- then BAM! They get married and immediately let themselves go and turn into a bunch of fatties!" She continued.

"Ah." Hailey replied, still gathering her excuses for why that wouldn't happen to her. "Well, I don't really think so. I mean, yeah they all got pretty big, but I don't really eat like them and I like working out. I just could see myself letting THAT happen..." she reasoned.

"mmm...you're probably right Hailey. Then again, I doubt they all ate like that when they were still your size, it's probably something they worked up to and I'd say tha-"

"Hey, why don't you just shut up about it?" Hailey interrupted, sounding a little but annoyed at the entire idea.

"Whoa whoa whoa there!" Lindsey shouted, feigning injury. "I thought you people were supposed to be jolly. You're probably just hangry, you should have some of mom's left over donuts from this morning, she bought a dozen but I think about 3 should be left for you - if that's even enough!" She spat, with a devilish grin - hoping to get a rise out of Hailey.

"Ugh, you're such a douche!" Hailey laughed, rolling her eyes and standing up from the table. "Seriously though, I don't even want to think about it, let's just go downstairs and hang out with everyone else."

"Sure thing BIG girl, lead the way!" Lindsey said, continuing to grin from ear to eat at her flustered sister.
