Chapter 12. Epilogue

Before we knew it, summer drew to a close and fall began to creep up on us. The beautiful golden days Kelsey and I shared together became shorter and shorter with each passing week. It was bittersweet, knowing our magical summer together was coming to an end. Knowing our lives would change soon, that we couldn't stay in this carefree bubble forever.

But it was also exciting, because the end of the summer signalled the beginning of fall - a new season for us to experience together. Bringing with it pumpkin spice lattes, romantic walks amidst falling leaves, Insta posts of cutesy visits to the pumpkin patch, and Halloween parties to wreak havoc at. I couldn't wait to share all these experiences with my new girlfriend. I still couldn't believe sometimes that Kelsey was all mine.

Make fun of the U-Haul Lesbian trope all you want, but it was an easy decision to rent a place with Kelsey near my university where I planned to continue my studies. And Kelsey? With a dramatic fuck you to her parents, she dropped out of college to become a make-up artist and influencer. Already being a magnet for attention, she was a natural, and she had me to support her and help her build her brand. Her rapidly growing collection of followers loved her skills, were entertained by her witty tutorials, and resonated with her core values of self-expression, make-up as an art form, and body positivity.

As I closed up shop at Scoopers on the last day of summer, I felt a twinge of sadness. Then giddiness, realizing that next year I get to come back and do this all again. This was a summer I will never forget... but next summer will be another one to remember.
