Midvale high school’s stage play of hansel and gretel

Chapter 1 - story and ending

While exploring the ruins of a burnt-out store, budding writer, 13-Year-Old Lena Luthor, finds an old typewriter and is thrilled. When she starts to use it, however, she doesn't realize that whatever she types on the machine becomes reality until it's too late…

"Oh wow! This is so cool! I can't believe anyone would leave this behind!" the young Luthor marveled at the old typewriter she found sitting alone in the store's backroom. It looked to be in relatively good condition so it made no sense to her why the previous owner of the store had not taken it with him when he departed, but she decided that it didn't really matter.
"If the old storekeeper didn't want it, I'll take it!" she decided, quickly claiming the old typewriter as her own. A few hours later, then, she sat at home busily and happily typing away on it, smiling as she watched her stories unfold under the old, clacking keys of the typewriter.
"This is so cool!" she whispered as she typed about a dog who went on secret, heroic journeys during the night. She was so entranced by her own writing that she failed to notice the canine that had suddenly gone rushing past her window, wearing a cape and mask…

A month later, Lena did a script for Midvale School's upcoming US Halloween Stage Play "Hansel and Gretel". The Hansel Role was to be played by 14-Year-Old James Olsen, Gretel was 14-Year-Old Kara Danvers and the Wicked Witch was 40-Year-Old was Cat Grant.

"Hansel and Gretel went into the woods and came across a Gingerbread House," Lena dictated as she began to type out her script on the old typewriter. "Gretel starts to eat the gingerbread and says it's delicious! Hansel does likewise and the two kids gorge themselves silly on sugar. That's when the witch wakes up after 20 years of sleeping, looking for more food to be eaten! Little does she know that Hansel is already one step ahead of her… realizing that sugar isn't enough, he begins to fatten his sister up like crazy, hoping to cook and eat her. Gretel gains 30 pounds, the perfect size for a spit roast!"

And all while Lena continued to type out the play, its event unfolded real-time without her even knowing…

"Wow! Look at that!" Kara marveled as she suddenly found herself and James facing a giant house made totally out of gingerbread. Kara sank her teeth into it immediately, devouring every piece of candy she laid eyes on.
"It's delicious!" she cried as she got fatter and fatter. James encouraged her gorging, helping her eat as much gingerbread as possible, fattening her up even more until she was bloated, belly hanging out from underneath her shirt.

"Ooooh, I'm gaining a lot of weight!" Kara remarked, but she kept on eating the delicious gingerbread cookies. James watched her go with a sinister smile before leading her inside the house. There was a warm fire roaring in the hearth, a spit hanging over it.
"Hold still," James instructed as he lifted the fattened Kara onto the spit.

And while all of this was transpiring, Eliza Danvers, Alex Danvers, Lena Luthor, Lex Luthor, Lillian Luthor, and Lyra Strayd were all watching Lena's script playing out in real life. They could see it happening on stage, little knowing that everything they were seeing was real…

"After Hansel puts Gretel on the spit, the Witch finds them!" Lena continued to type. "She tells Hansel to put an apple in Gretel's mouth, so he does. They both continue to cook Gretel alive. She feels nothing as she's slow-roasted over an open fire for the witch."
"I'll taste delicious as a roast!" she murmured through the apple in her mouth.
"Yes you will," the Witch replied. "You'll taste delicious as a Kryptonian roast ready to be eaten!" then the Witch carved out a nice, juicy hunk of Gretel's warm, roasted leg and bit merrily into it…

It was then that things took a dark turn. Lena looked up from her typewriter, realizing that something was off… Kara Danvers had lost a leg when she shouldn't have! The knife Cat was using was REAL!!! Lena tried to tell the teacher and the teacher realized it too. Both of them tried to get onto stage, but some forcefield was keeping them back and no one else was stopping Cat as she continued to cut into Kara's leg.

At the same time, the audience of Eliza Danvers, Alex Danvers, Lex Luthor, Lillian Luthor, and Lyra Strayd all started freaking out that Kara lost her leg. They finally began to realize that everything they were seeing was real. It was not fake. It was not an act. It was REAL!!! They realized that the leg the witch was eating was actually Kara's leg and not just a fake turkey leg.

Cat, meanwhile, was totally controlled by the cursed typewriter. She kept on hurting and eating Kara without stopping or even thinking about what she was doing. Kara just tasted too good for her to care, or stop. The typewriter had totally taken over her mind.
"I've eaten both legs! They are delicious! Now I shall eat the arms!" she muttered, sawing off Kara's arms. Then once she was done eating that, she went to dig into Kara's chest until there was no meat left.

It was only after every little last bite of Kara was gone that Cat and James realized that this was the real life and just not a play or a fake or an act.
"She really was cooked over a spit! It was not fake!" James cried in horror and dismay as he looked at all the blood everywhere. The audience was still freaking out and Lena and the teacher were still trying to get onto stage. Cat looked horrified with herself, dropping the knife and almost throwing up.

Ending
At last, however, Lena realized the cause of all the chaos. The typewriter! It was cursed! Cursed to bring things to life! She ran towards the object and destroyed it at once. While she did that, the teacher was quick to spread the word about the cursed typewriter. As the story got out, the US President created a law to block Non-School Typewriters being used in class. This new law was called the Kara Zor El Act of 2005. Now, the only legal typewriters were school typewriters. No outside typewriters were allowed to be used, just in case another one was ever found to be cursed.

Midvale City lost a lawsuit filed by the Danvers Family. The Luthor family paid their lawsuit out of Court Settlement. They paid a million dollars to compensate the Danvers for their loss of Kara. Lena, herself, gave up typewriters forever and never ever wrote another play again. James and Cat quit acting forever too and Midvale never forgot the story of the haunted typewriter and how it cost Kara Danvers her life…
