Panaderia

Chapter 1

My name is Mike, and a few years ago I opened a bakery in the city. The first few years were a bit tough, as I wasn’t selling much, but as more people came in, word of mouth spread, and my bakery became the most popular in town. I made coffee, bread, pastries of all kinds, and cakes.

But the amount of work became so overwhelming that I couldn’t keep up, so I decided to post an ad saying I was looking for staff for the bakery.

Once the ad was up, multiple people came by my shop, but none of them seemed suitable for the job.

Then, one day, just when I was feeling desperate and ready to give up, she walked in through the door with a smile that left me hypnotized.

"Hi, my name is Laura. I'm here for the job interview."
I stood there, stunned for a few seconds, looking at her. She had dark, straight hair, honey-colored eyes, and was of medium height—about 5'3". She had a slim waist and wide hips, and from what I could tell, she probably weighed around 132 lbs. We chatted for a while. I asked her about her work experience, trying to play it cool and act like I wasn’t completely interested, but it was clear I was going to hire Laura. After a while, I asked her:

"So, Laura, when could you start?"

"Whenever you say, Mike," she added.

"Please, call me by my first name," I told her. "Would tomorrow at 7 work for you?"

"Perfect, see you tomorrow at seven," she replied.

I watched her walk away through the glass window of the shop, unable to take my eyes off her.

I spent the whole night awake thinking about Laura, feeling nervous, like a little kid going on a school trip. I went to the bakery at 4 a.m. to start baking the first batches of the day and to prepare the coffee machine and everything else. When 7 a.m. came, there she was, standing at the door. I opened it, gave her the uniform, and explained the basics for her first day—the names of the products, how the cash register worked, and how to use the coffee machine.

We opened the bakery, and customers started coming in, as usual. Laura, with her sweet nature, handled the service perfectly. People loved her, and so did I.
