The barn

chapter 1

“Damn I’m going to be late again!”Sarah thought as she raced through her apartment trying to pack.

Of all the Friday’s to have to work late, it had to be the one before her girls trip!
“Why didn’t I just pack before work?” She thought.

“Because you were too busy stuffing your face for breakfast” a small voice in her head replied.

Ugh. It wasn’t her fault she’d been so hungry lately, with the stress of a new job and living on her own she hadn’t found the time for healthy eating or cooking.
“That’s why you can’t fit into your clothes anymore fatty” the voice continued.

Sure, she’d gained a few pounds and outgrown some of her clothes. But part of growing up is getting a more ‘adult’ body isn’t it?

It was true to say that her extra weight was making it harder to pack, but she managed to find a few cute outfits her belly could still squeeze into.

“It’s only for the weekend,” she thought, “I can bring my oversized jeans and my spandex and I’ll be fine.”

Finally packed Sarah hit the road, with a quick message to her friends letting them know she’d be late, and to go ahead and get dinner without her.

“Good, I get to eat by myself without anyone judging me on how much I eat— no, no, I need to not stuff myself I still need to fit in my clothes this weekend. A small dinner will be fine and can get me on the track to losing this weight.”

Her belly grumbled in protest as she sped down the highway.

After about an hour of driving it started pouring rain.

“Wow I can’t see anything! Crazy how this storm came up out of nowhere!” Sarah thought, “I can barely see 10 feet in front of me!”

The storm around her worsened, the wind blowing the trees almost parallel to the ground.

“I wish there was somewhere I could pull over to ride out this storm” Sarah said to herself, as the lightning crashed closer and thunder got louder.

Suddenly she saw a building appear out of the darkness, it was a restaurant shaped like a barn, with a big electric sign that said ‘buffet starting at $14.99’

Her stomach rumbled in excitement, she was so hungry, and after all she needed somewhere to let the storm pass.

Between this start and the captions on your pictures, I'd say you have a natural talent for short fiction in this genre, I hope you get a chance to write more.
