Becca's Butt Blubber

Chapter 1 - A Bad Idea

All the women had a crush on Tom. He was that deliciously toned and muscular gym instructor who looked good in absolutely everything he wore. A friend of a friend, Becca had come across him more than a few times, trying to take the guy’s good looks in her stride so as not to come across as desperate. The guy’s muscles had developed more over time, with that striking jawline and perfect hair making heads turn whenever they were out in public. They all knew that Tom took full advantage of it. It was said that he never slept with the same woman twice and, although Tom laughed whenever they accused him of this, he never actually denied it.

Becca had seen Tom operating when they were out. The subtle glances he made at the women in the room, until he’d disappeared without a word, already on his way back to their place. Then they’d roll their eyes and joke that, like Cinderella, Tom was never to be seen beyond midnight.

Being a young professional in the city, Becca’s friends all came from wildly different backgrounds and social circles. Some, like Becca, worked within local law firms. Others were doctors, teachers, creatives or office-workers. Then there was personal trainer, Tom, keeping them all on their toes with his energy and spark, finding his way into any crowd, never taking life too seriously.

Unlike her more advantaged friends, Becca had never been skiing as a kid. She knew, even as she agreed, that it wouldn’t be the best idea. She’d been caught up in the others’ enthusiasm and her silent keenness to see Tom’s infamous snowboarding skills in action. At least she’d managed one full day on the beginner slopes before she’d crashed into one of the barriers, creating a nasty break to her tibia.

Weeks of working from home ensued. Although Becca felt lucky to have her own one-bed studio apartment, she had to admit that it was something of a lonely existence without her family closeby to help her out. The space was too small for her to get around effectively on her crutches, and cooking in the miniscule and clumsily laid-out kitchen had been a chore she could well do without.

It had been her own fault that she’d packed on a few pounds, ordering take-out meal after take-out meal. No longer going out as much as she had done previously, she’d frittered away her disposable income on new gadgets and tasty treats, all in an effort to cheer herself up.

Putting on her usual work pants after over 3 months was quite a shock. A creeping softness had been slowly building up on her. She gazed in the mirror after struggling to buckle the usually sleek pants, horrified at what she could see. Never in her life had she been this out of shape, with a doughy mass beginning to press over the waistband and an unmistakable softness making up the bulk of her glutes that hadn’t been exercised properly in weeks. She had no idea her thighs had been getting so chunky until she witnessed for herself the strain they were placing on the material, nor the chubbiness of her cheeks until she finally deployed a critical eye over her entire appearance.

Up she climbed onto the scales she’d squirreled away in a drawer in her bedroom. Without fail, she’d always been 115lbs ever since college. Now, however, up those numbers climbed into unfamiliar territory, sailing through the one-twenties in a flash, then over and beyond the one-forties as well. They came to settle, quite horrifically, at one hundred and fifty three pounds, making Becca gasp in alarm.

In her eyes, she was, without a doubt, a complete mess.
