Chapter 4 - A wedding to plan

Listen to this chapter - just press play:
After the post proposal bliss was over, Rachel and I sat down and started putting pen to paper.
After all this time together we already short of knew the kind of wedding that we wanted, so it was more a matter of getting things done than anything else.

First things first, we set a date: July 17th 2021. That would give us nearly 10 months to prepare things and we would hopefully enjoy some of the rare British sun.

Then we informed or families and friends. Our friends were proper happy about it as they knew it was a matter of time for us to get married and they finally had a date for it. Our families on the other hand weren't so into it.

My family didn't say anything explicitly bad about it, but I could see their judgemental eyes set on Rachel's appearance . I think they were still hoping for me to find someone more to their liking, more body normative.

Rachel's family didn't say anything neither, but they clearly saw me as a bad influence for their daughter and even though they ended up accepting me along the years, the still would have preferred for someone else to marry Rachel.

We didn't let our respective families discourage us. We were really looking forward to finally make our love oficial and to celebrate it with the most important people in our lives, a couple of clouds wouldn't spoil our day.

Next step was finding the dresses for Rachel and her bridesmaids.
One thing to say about Rachel's mates is that they looked nothing like her. They ranked anywhere between skinny and so slightly chubby, nothing compared to the sheer size of Rachel. She was easily twice the size of most of them and even triple the size of the most petite. Finding matching dresses I thought, was going to be a nightmare, but thanks to the body positive movement, it wasn't like that at all.

I'm sure, that those of you like me who are in their 30s have also noticed how much better our lives as FAs are thanks to body positivism. I remember when I was a teenager, how being slightly fat would make you a social outcast and how being fat pretty much meant hiding your body in unflattering and ugly clothes and to hope for society to never notice you. Thanks God that even though we still have a long way to get to real acceptance of each others as we are, things have clearly improved.
Now you see chubby and fat people embracing their bodies and being able to buy clothes that fit them and suit them nicely. Rachel as a size 26-28 (UK) was not an exception. So the hunt for the dress begins.

Sorry, I got a bit caught up with life but I'll try to catch up now. Rachel had a bit of a "growth spurt" recently and I want to get to that.
