It took some time for Will to recognize Carly across the room.

It was their 10 year high school reunion and he'd been hoping to run into her. Back then, they were the popular couple in school—captain of the football team and the head cheerleader, the whole cliché. But college and life got in the way and they'd lost touch over the years.

And Carly—shit, she hadn't gotten married nor had any kids... So all that extra weight she was carrying was most probably simply due to overindulgences. Her pretty black dress, stretched tight over her doughy middle, also indicated that it was recent—she hadn't had time to update the wardrobe.
