Chapter 1 + 2 - the crush

This was James’ favourite time of day. Feeling his heart flutter with anticipation, he rounded the corner towards work, walking at a brisk pace as always, hoping to see if he was there. His stomach flipped with excitement as he saw him, Yes! He was there. It was a pathetic teenage style crush for a 25 year old to have, he knew, but he couldn’t help himself. There was something about that security guard that he found irresistibly attractive. Every morning he did the same, hoping beyond hope that he would be the security guard on duty at the entrance.

“Morning mate! How are you today, long time no see?” the guard cheerfully exclaimed.

“Yeah I am good thank you, the weather is lovely isn’t it. Nice to see you too!” James replied, as he flashed his ID card and continued on into work. He was beautiful, even though he didn’t even know the guards name, James was floating as he continued to his small slightly worn office building in the complex of several equally tired looking blocks. ‘For goodness sake, stop being pathetic’ he chastised himself in his mind. But he couldn’t help it, his allure was undeniable.

What was more surprising, is that the guard is far from James’ typical type. He had a fat fettish, plain and simple. Yet this guard was thin and seemed to be fairly well built underneath his uniform. He definitely fit society's criteria for beauty. Tall, perfect white teeth that flashed with the warm smile he always gave, a light dusting of freckles over his nose and mischievous green eyes. Anyway, James thought to himself, he probably isn’t even gay. It was enough for him to get these little kicks when he walked past him and it was even more special that the guard now clearly recognised him.

Chapter Two

Quickly, James had forgotten about his dreamy encounter and had settled into work. He enjoyed his job, even if it was typically mundane administration. He worked with a good team and left work most days fairly satisfied with life. Around 10am he did his normal ritual for when the weather was nice, he took a cup of coffee and went and sat on the bench overlooking the bird feeders. He was gently daydreaming away when he noticed movement in his peripheral vision.

“Hey, do you mind if I sit here?” It was the guard, looking just as dashing as at 8am, stood awkwardly towards the end of the bench.

“Sure!” James exclaimed, feeling that familiar stirring that came with having such an intense crush on someone.

“I’m Jordan” the guard said, sitting down and leaning across extending his hand. James shook it, noticing it was soft and warm, he glanced up into Jordan’s eyes and saw that beautiful smile and those deep green eyes. “It is lovely to speak to you, I always love it when you are on the main gate, you are the friendliest of all of the security team” James gushed, immediately regretting being so weird. Jordan did not seem to notice James’ cheeks flushing pink with embarrassment as he replied “Aww, me too! You know most people just grunt as they walk in, but you always say hello”.

They made pleasant small talk for the next 10 minutes, James was pleasantly surprised to notice how easy to talk to Jordan was. James knew he had to get back to work, but didn’t want to let this special moment slide away. However, just as he was beginning to get nervous about being late to his next meeting, Jordan said “I’m really sorry, but I need to go, I am on my next rotation now. But, before I do, do you maybe have instagram or something that we can exchange?”.

Jordan looked sheepish as he asked, but smiled and seemed genuinely pleased when James lept at the opportunity. Taking Jordan’s phone into his hand, he swiftly typed in his username and handed it back. “Thank you, speak to you soon handsome” Jordan said as he jumped up and hurried over to the main building.

James was astounded by the turn of events and quite genuinely gobsmacked. Little did he know that this was just the beginning.
