Chapter 2 - merry christmas

"Hhmmm," Santa thought aloud, "so I want to offer you a job as my successor. You would have to live at the North Pole. The first 3 months of the year are free. Then it slowly starts to get busy, getting more and more busy until the peak season in December. On Christmas you will have to work the whole day, but you will notice that it is not so bad as it seems, as the Christmas magic is changing your timeline. Of course you will be able to visit your family all around the year. Board and lodging is free. Everything you need will be provided by the elves. You don't get a salary, but if you need money, for your holidays f.ex. it will be provided by the elves, too. You will get your own suite which you can furnish as you like with all the amenties you need to feel as comfortable as possible. And there will be plenty of delicious food . My wife is a very good cook and if you like something different the elves will help you."

"What about the look?" asked Nic. "You know, the hair and the beard?" "We will have to pep you up a bit the first time, but then it will get natural."

"And my size doesn't matter?" asked Nic.

"Why should it matter?" replied Santa."I'm doing very well and I could do that job much longer. But now as I'm married I decided that I'd like to have a bit more time with my wife and figured it would be time to retire. The first year I will show you everything and after that I will be still there. I'd like to help out from time to time."

"You're not married?" came as an after thought.

"No, but I'm looking for the right partner. It is not so easy to find the right one at my size," Nic sighed.

"Oh, that reminds me," exclaimed Santa, "I nearly forgot the last present. I was really surprised when it was delivered. But it must be for you."

With this he took a small letter out of his pocket. It was adressed to Santa Claus, The North Pole, and it said:

Dear Santa,

My only wish for Christmas will be a man like you.

Yours Kathrin

"I wondered what I should do with that one, but now it's clear, you should try to contact her when you're settled down in your new home."

"So, what do you think about the job?" he eagerly asked Nic.

Nic gave him a big smile "I'd really like to take your offer. I think that is really the chance of my life and I won't miss it."

"I clean up a bit and then I'm ready to leave."

"But what will they say when you're not here in the morning?" worried Santa.

"I don't live to far from here and they will assume that I preferred to sleep in my own bed because I'm always afraid I will break their furniture."

With this he took all the empty plates into the kitchen and appeared minutes again out of breath.

"Take my hand and don't let it loose" advised Santa and in the blink of an eye they sat on the big sleigh parked on the roof. The reindeers were very restless because of the long break. They shared with their hooves.

Santa explained "We will have more time for introduction at home. Luckily the elves improved the magic spell so far that I don't have to get in and out of the sleigh. So hold on tight, we're lifting." and with a joyful Ho ho ho the reindeers started to climb into the sky.

Nic was sitting on the now empty backseat, as there was not enough space left on the front seat beside the mighty figure of Santa. He felt a bit small behind his big boss, but was glad to notice that there was enough room up front for him to grow.

Santa gave him a big smile and thought about that warm welcome which was awaiting them back home at the North Pole. Nic sat back contentedly, imaging what Kathrin would be like and hoping that she would be as good a cook as Mrs. Claus. Then he opened the envelope to read her letter again and a sexy photo tumbled out, causing the fat man's jaw to drop! The next thing Santa knew, Nic was tapping him on the shoulder and begging him to make a stop in Germany on the way back to the North Pole ... Santa just laughed, his belly convulsing like a bowlful of jelly, and said "I told Dancer to plot a route before we left!"
