An economic policy

Mark had just been elected the 11th President of the Republic of Tuistan, a large country in central Asia, with a good farming and agricultural production.
His main concern for the coming 4 years was to help his country catch up its wealth and growth after 24 months of complete stop or just about due to the pandemic.
At a meeting with his Government staff, they came out with a new idea: boost the National economy by increasing consumption. And since, President Mark didn’t want the imports to increase too much, he decided the consumption would be focused on National products prioritarely.
So a bill was passed awardong a $100 month bonus for every 10 pounds each woman over 18 years old would gain. This bonus would last for at least 10 years and it could increase if the women put more weight each month. So for instance: a woman gaining 10 pounds each month for 3 months, she would be awarded 100+200+300 : $600 every month after the third for 10 years, which is quite a lot of money.
Mark and his staff also decided that politicians, for once, would apply to themselves what they ask the people to do. So their wives and girlfriends would also be asked to participate.
On top of that, it was decided to award bronze, silver and gold medals to women having put on more that 25, 50 or 100 pounds in a year. And those medals would help the women or their family to get a loan from their banks in order to buy new housings, helping then again to boost the economy.

So from in every county, town, and village women decided to take part in this national effort. Tuistan was a proud country.
Families even started growing and feeding their own porcs, ducks and poltry, so as to always have enough proteins to eat.
The national food industries enlarged its facturies to produce even more goods made in Tuistan.
Advertising also changend: local fattening but healthy food was promoted, by real plump Tuistan women.
The whole country was now changing, the farmers revenue increased, a sence of well being was growing everywhere.


And after a whole year of this new policy, things were doing quite well: the growth rate went from 2% to 8%, the farming and agriculture industry was flourishing, hiring even more people each month and on top of that, exports were also good, since the production costs were decreasing. Plus the building industry was doing well, a lot of new homes were being built. And of course the average adult female weight skyrocketed by 10%.

While preparing the Economy support medal ceremony, Mark had the visit from Ann the wife of the Finance and Economy minister, a friend of him and his wife Kate.
« Mark » Ann said, « I need to tell you something. Your policy is doing very well as you can see. » Ann had put on 75 pounds in a year he guessed, and he knew his Kate had put on 60 pounds.
« But why only women? To boost the economy even more, you should do the same thing for men! » she told him.
« I don’t want to put weight on » Mark answered. « I’m sure Kate would be delighted to but a pot belly and you and see a double chin grow on your face » Ann giggled.
« What are you talking about Ann? »
« Yes, that's what she told me, Mark! Plus, she thinks it would be totally fare and equal, that men would be treated as women. And I’m sure it would help you win the midterm elections! » smiled Ann.
« I’ll think about it Ann » answered Mark. « Good, and you can count on your Finance and Economy minister, I convinced him, and he’s already put his first 10 pounds on » Ann grinned « though you know, he doesn’t need the bonus. He did it just because he loves his country and me also! » she added.
