Chapter 2 - sleepless in maine

"Oh my God Cooper be quiet!" Rex yelped from his bed.

"Rex...shut up. Yelling to him from up stairs isn't gunna work. Go down there and see what he needs."

"What if he has to pee? It's ***in' cold out and I don't wanna go-"

"Just do it Rex, he's not gunna stop till he see's either you or me. Just throw your Carhartt on and boots. You'll be fine." She rolled over and snuggled up into the blanket more. Rex just sat up and rubbed his eyes and stretched his back and stood up.

"Next time you should do it. We'll take turns." He said looking back at her and walking toward the door. He walked down the stairs and nearly fell when Cooper ran under his feet and sat on them. "Hmmm, warm butt." Rex thought in his head. He bent down and picked up his puppy.

"What Coop? Huh? What's wrong buddy?" He nuzzled him into his chest and sat down on the couch with him. Him and Coop yawned at the same time and he smiled a weak smile at Coop.

"What do ya say? Gotta poop or pee?" The dog just looked at him with that sweet bulldog puppy dog eyes and licked his face and then decided that chewing on his hands was a good idea.

"Ok that works too I guess." Rex said with a sigh. Penny woke with a moan and looked over her shoulder. "What you got?"

"Cooper. I'm gunna let 'em sleep in our bed tonight. He'll just curl up and find a nice warm spot and sleep. And he'll stop that god awful whinning too." He placed Cooper on the bed and then climbed into bed and wrapped Penny, Cooper, and himself in the same blanket and fell asleep to the sound of Coop snoring and his wife snoring too. "It's gunna be a long night." Rex thought to himself. But he smiled and closed his eyes and dozed off into a bliss filled dream. He woke back up an hour later and looked over her shoulder to see the clock. It's dim red glow showed 3:07 A.M.. "Ugh." He thought "Only four more hours till I got to get my *** up." He really wasn't that fat...much. Ok yeah he was fat but just kinda chubby, not to over weight but not under weight by any stretch of the imagintion. He was just the average American male with a gut. But he was extremely strong and was well built with bugling muscles and a block head. Sweet but not always nice.

"Ok, only a few more hours of sleep and I'll be better. Then I go to work, get home, stuff myself silly and nap then get ready for dinnah and then stuff myself then too and then go to bed with Pen and Coop. Good life. Repeat. Wow my life is pretty simple. That's great. Oh shit I forgot hunting season-"

"Rex." She said in a stern voice.

"Yes, love of my life and sweets." He said with a hint of sarcasm.

"Go. To. Bed. Stop talking and just sleep hun." She rolled over to face him.

"Sure thing babe. Sorry. Just got carried away with my thoughts haha!"

"I know silly. I've been listening to you for an hour talk in your sleep, then talk when your awake hahaha!"

"Sorry." He said reaching over to hug and kiss her.

"It's fine sweetie." She planted a kiss on his forehead and smiled.
