A Big Commute

Chapter 1 - A typical morning?

It was a lush Monday morning, Mary was rushing to work. She had been running late, as she rushed to the cafe at the train station to grab her breakfast and lunch. A coffee, sandwich and chocolate croissant for breakfast, and a coke, a bag of crisps, and a burrito for lunch. She had also grabbed some chocolate and cookies as snacks during the work.

The train was not very busy. She found herself a double seater all by herself and placed her coffee and bag of treats in front of her. Apart from a rather big guy working on his laptop, the carriage was almost empty. She took off her coat, stored it on the seats across, and made herself comfortable. As she moved into a comfortable seating position, she noticed her shirt riding up slightly. She had been putting on a bit of weight since she started her job. Working in admin wasn't very exciting, so she had turned to snacking to keep up her motivation. But this had affected her formerly slim waistline, more than she had realised so far. A small, but noticeable belly had grown on her, she had gotten some love handles and her overall figure had become a bit softer. However, so far she was in denial. The shirt was a bit too tight and barely covered her newly found curves. She pulled her shirt down to adjust it, so it would at least temporarily covered her belly and focussed on more important matters: the breakfast in front of her.

Finally, time to drink her coffee. She had almost missed her train because of it. She should really prepare her breakfast in the morning, but she valued her sleep too much, and the long train journey to the university where she worked, required her to leave even earlier. At least she had sorted out her lunch, so she wouldn't have to buy something at the cafeteria. That way she would eat something more healthy and not get carried away getting extra snacks with her meal. Lately, she had been so hungry during lunch, and eating at the cafeteria with her colleagues made her a bit conscious of the food she was eating.
