Chapter 1
Listen to this chapter - just press play:
“Well,” Bonnie replied sheepishly, “he’s really cute, and he’s kind of sweet — and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t something I’d thought about more than once.”
“You’ve thought about intentionally overeating and gaining more weight?” Amanda asked, sounding somewhat incredulous.
“The thought has crossed my mind.”
The two friends were sitting in the food court at their local mall having lunch together, when the subject of this new guy that Bonnie had just started seeing came up. The two of them met at a party a few weeks prior, and since then Bonnie hasn’t been able to think of or speak about much else.
“Davin,” sighed Bonnie with a starry-look in her eyes, “just the sound of his name is sweet.”
“Yeah, well I hope you’re ready to get really fat,” Amanda interjected cooly, disrupting Bonnie’s trance-like state, “because that’s all these guys care about. They just want to stuff you full of food, get you as big and fat as possible before they get bored with you and move on to their next victim.”
“You almost sound as if you speak from experience.”
Amanda looked around from side to side, then leaned over the table to get closer to Bonnie. “You remember that guy Tony I was seeing for a while last summer? The one with the dark curly hair.”
Bonnie thought for a moment; Amanda had been out with so many men that it was hard to keep track. “He worked at the sporting goods place," Amanda said, "drove a Mustang — he had that weird medallion thing he always wore.”
“Oh, the medallion guy!” Bonnie said as the image of the swarthy and bejeweled gentleman appeared in her mind’s eye. “Oh yeah I remember him.”
“Total feeder.”
“No way!”
“Way!”
Amanda peered around once again, as though she were looking to see that no one she knew was within earshot. “He was constantly trying to get me to eat,” she said in a low whisper, “like all the time. Like he was bringing food into the bedroom, trying to feed me while we were fucking; it was fucking weird.”
“That doesn’t sound so bad, honestly,” Bonnie said, “I love food and I love sex. What’s wrong with combing the two?”
“Hey, I love food and sex too,” Amanda answered, “but there has to be a limit.”
“I guess.”
“We’d only been going out for like two weeks before I gained twenty pounds.”
“Yeah, I remember that,” Bonnie said, “you did get a little chunky. I just thought maybe you were retaining water or something.”
“I mean you know,” Amanda said, leaning back in her seat, running the tips of her fingers along the rim of her soda cup, “I’ve never been exactly what you would call skinny, but I had never been as heavy as that in my life.”
“Welcome to the club,” Bonnie kidded playfully, “membership has its benefits!”
“After a couple of weeks though,” Amanda said, again leaning and speaking low, “he told me that he was a feeder, that he wanted to fatten me up.”
“Really?”
“He said he wouldn’t accept anything less that five hundred pounds.”
“Damn!”
“I know. Right?”
“Five hundred is kind of a lot,” Bonnie said, “I mean I think the heaviest I’ve ever been has been about three hundred pounds; I’m probably pushing two-fifty right now. Five hundred though? That’s a tall order!”
“And you know, honey, I think you’re beautiful,” Amanda said, reaching out placing a hand on top of her friend’s, “and I just love how confident you are and how comfortable you are with your body. It’s really beautiful.”
“Umm - thanks?”
“But I just don’t think I could ever be comfortable being that heavy myself. It’s just not how I’m built.”
“I understand,” Bonnie said. “To each their own.”
“He was like obsessed though,” Amanda went on, “I just couldn’t deal with it. It’s all he would talk about after that: ‘Let me feed you, let me stuff you; I want you to get fatter for me!’.”
“Hmm, so that’s what happened to medallion guy,” Bonnie said, “I thought there was something kind of sus about that dude.”
“So sus!”
Just then Bonnie got a ping on her phone. Picking it up from the table, she looked to see that it was none other than Davin texting her. Her face turned red and her heart skipped a beat; there was no question that this guy had some sort of a special hold on her.
“That him?” Amanda asked.
“Yeah,” Bonnie answered, “I told him I was meeting you here today. He asked me to pick up a couple of extra burritos for later.”
“Burritos, huh?”
Bonnie answered her beloved’s text and quickly placed the phone back down on the table. She bowed her head down and looked at her lap as she tried to stifle the giddiness just itching to explode from her smile.
“I’m telling you, girl,” Amanda said as she leaned back in her chair, eyes closed and shaking her head from side to side, her long jet-black locks dancing back and forth as she moved, “you gotta watch out for these guys. One minute they’re feeding you burritos, the next minute they’re trying to funnel heavy cream down your throat.”
“That actually sounds hot,” Bonnie said, “I think I’d kinda be into that.”
“I just worry about you,” Amanda said with a much more sober tone.
“Listen,” Bonnie said, “I understand what you’re saying, and believe me when I say I will go into this thing with my eyes wide open and I won’t allow myself to be forced into doing anything that I don’t want to do. I have to tell you though, Amanda, it’s just so nice to have a guy who likes me for me. Who isn’t trying to change me or force me to fit into some unobtainable body image. I have accepted myself as a fat woman, and all I want is to find a man who can accept that too.”
Amanda was quiet for a moment as she pondered what her friend was saying. It seemed as though Bonnie had made her mind up and there was just no changing it.
“Bonnie, I’m happy for you,” she said, “if you’re happy and this is what you want then you have my full support.”
“Thank you.”
“Just remember: people aren’t always what they appear to be on the surface.”
