The Weight of Greed

Chapter 1

Lisa had always lived off of her looks. At twenty-two, she’d never worked a day in her life, never taken studies seriously, and never worried about tomorrow. Her “jobs” had always been the same- being on the arm of whichever boyfriend was dazzled enough to bankroll her lifestyle. But even Lisa knew it wasn’t enough. Beauty faded, and the competition was ruthless.
One evening, over cocktails, a friend leaned in with a smirk. “You should try this site. They pay stupid money for the simplest things. Fetching coffee, organizing a closet, just being… presentable.”
Lisa scoffed at first, but curiosity got the better of her. She made a profile, filled it with carefully edited photos and charming half truths, then waited.
The rejection notices came one by one. Too plain. Not glamorous enough. Not “sparkling” like the others. Each refusal stung more than the last, until she saw the offer.
A billionaire named Loras wanted a professional, good person to carry out his daily tasks. The salary attached made her heart race. It was more than she could ever dream of.
The very next morning after receiving the offer, Lisa made her first “grown-up” decision. She dumped her boyfriend with a quick text message, “It’s not you, it’s that I’ve outgrown this.” She packed her things without giving her parents any notice.
Her father’s voice was firm, almost pleading. “Lisa, you’ve never held down a job. Do you even know what this… website gig really is?”
Her mother simply sighed, disappointment heavy in her eyes. “You’re chasing money the way you’ve always chased boys. You’ll come running back.”
Lisa only smiled sweetly, kissed them both on the cheek, and wheeled her suitcase out the door. For once, she wasn’t worried. She was going to be rich.

At first, the tasks really were as simple as advertised, though Lisa noticed they all revolved around food. She was told to taste test elaborate desserts and provide “detailed feedback.” She was asked to dine at restaurants she couldn’t even pronounce, her only job was to order freely and report back with photographs and impressions. She was sent home each evening with boxes of leftovers she couldn’t bear to throw away.
Laras’ bodyguard Clay, praised her for being thorough, and for never leaving a plate unfinished. “He likes people who commit,” she was told.
Lisa laughed it off, but by the third week she had to tug harder at the zipper of her designer jeans. By the second month, her once slim dresses began to pinch under the arms, seams straining when she sat. She told herself it was nothing… a little water weight. But her reflection in the mirror told another story, her backside rounding, thighs brushing, her waist softening into a curve that hadn’t been there before. She was starting to develop a little roll on her stomach. Lisa ignored these changes because Loras was paying her handsomely.

“Some appetites can’t be undone.”

What beautifully seductive writing.

I’ve grown an appetite for it. More, please.
