Chapter 1 - The Weight of Debt
I’m a man who knows no mercy. My name strikes terror in the villages, a whisper that makes debtors and their families tremble. I’m the master of these lands, the lord of their debts, and every coin owed to me is a noose I tighten around their necks. Tomorrow, the deadline looms for one of my biggest debtors, Luthien, an elf who dared to squander my gold to save his pitiful little wife from some magical wasting disease. I’ve already prepared the tools to collect what’s mine: whips, chains, and a smile that chills the blood. But tonight, a knock at the door interrupts my thoughts.I open it to find a creature straight out of a dream. A stunning blonde elf, her wide, frightened eyes staring at me like a doe caught in a wolf’s gaze, and damn, does that get me going. I’m hard in an instant. She’s petite, with barely-there curves under a threadbare dress that leaves little to the imagination. It’s unusual for an elf to be so thin, almost sickly. Her hands tremble as she wrings them awkwardly, her face flushing under my icy stare. This is Liriel, Luthien’s wife, come to beg for her sorry husband, though I don’t know her yet, but I will soon enough.
“S-sir…” she stammers, her voice a whisper that betrays her fear. “I’m Luthien’s wife. Please, I’m begging you, give him more time to pay. I love him… I can’t lose him. We’re flat broke, but he did it for me, he saved me from the magical plague!”
I say nothing, letting the silence grow heavy on purpose. Her shoulders shake, her gaze drops, unable to meet mine. She’s adorable, in a pathetic sort of way, and so devoted to her precious husband. “Oh, really?” I say, my voice low and sharp as a blade. “Do you know how much your husband owes me? Do you know why he blew a fortune he didn’t have?”
She nods, her eyes glistening with shame. “Y-yes, I know. It’s… my fault. He spent it all on my treatment. We couldn’t afford to let me die.” Her voice cracks, and the flush on her face deepens as she twists the hem of her dress, as if she could vanish into it.
“Remind me how much he owes,” I order, crossing my arms and letting my eyes slide over her, slow and deliberate. She’s so fragile, so… pliable. I want her already, mine.
“A thousand gold pieces,” she answers, glancing up for a moment, trying to sound convincing. “It’s… a huge debt, I know. But please, we need more time. We have to sell everything we own, but it’s not enough… I’m begging you, sir, show some mercy.”
Mercy? The word pulls a cruel smile from me. This little elf has no idea who she’s dealing with. I step closer, letting my gaze strip away her defenses. She shrinks back, her slight frame trembling under the weight of my attention. “Liriel, is it?” I ask, savoring her name like fine wine. “Tell me, how much money do you and your dear husband actually have? What’s left to keep you afloat?”
She swallows hard, her face a mix of embarrassment and desperation. “Almost nothing, sir. We barely cover the cost of living. Your loan… it’s a crushing burden on our finances… Even selling everything, it wouldn’t be enough…” She trails off, as if realizing she’s come to my door without a real plan. I love it when desperation lowers their guard like this, it makes it so much easier to get what I really want, with hardly any resistance. In this state, my debtors give everything, absolutely everything.
Perfect. She’s exactly where I want her: desperate, vulnerable, ready to break. I lean in, my smile widening. “You know, Liriel, there’s a way to ease your husband’s burden. An… alternative, just because it’s you asking.” I pause, letting the tension build. “How about you take on his debt? All of it, on your body. For every pound you pack onto that perfect little frame, I’ll shave a gold piece off your husband’s debt. What do you say?”
Her eyes widen, a flash of confusion and horror that makes her even more delicious. “Y-you mean… a pound of weight?” she stammers, as if she can’t believe her ears. “A gold piece for every pound I… gain? You want me to get fat?”
“Exactly, darling,” I reply, my tone smooth, almost kind, but laced with sadistic satisfaction. “Every pound you add to those wasted curves will chip away at your husband’s debt. Isn’t that generous of me? You’re looking a bit gaunt anyway, seems like a win-win, no?”
She glances down, her hands brushing her narrow hips and flat, sunken stomach, as if weighing the cost, not quite grasping what I’m really after. Her face is a storm of emotions: fear, shame, but also a flicker of resolve. “Alright, sir,” she says at last, her voice shaky but determined. “I’ll do it. I’ll do… whatever it takes to help my husband, even if it’s just a little.”
“Good girl,” I smirk, pleased. “That’s the spirit of sacrifice. But be warned, Liriel: if your husband doesn’t pay up, you might have to take on the whole debt. A thousand gold pieces, that’s a thousand pounds, to be exact. Can you imagine? A mountain of flesh, all to save your beloved husband.”
A whimper escapes her lips, her eyes wide as she grasps the enormity of my words. “A thousand pounds?” she whispers, her face pale. “Are you… serious?”
“Oh, it’s not my problem, sweetheart, it’s yours if you don’t pay,” I reply, shrugging casually. “The debt has to be settled, one way or another. And you, my dear, just became the key to balancing the books. If your husband doesn’t hurry up and pay, he’ll end up with a whale for a wife! Haha.” I don’t really need these thousand gold pieces from these pathetic saps, but they need to learn a lesson, debts get paid, and I’m not about to let them off easy.
I watch as the weight of my words crushes her. She’s so fragile, so lost in her desperation. Yet there’s something thrilling about knowing this pure-hearted creature, with her flawless elven body and devoted heart, will surrender to me, pound by pound, to save what she loves. I can’t wait to see how far I can break her, I love ruining and corrupting beautiful things…
