Magic Shop

Chapter 1

Listen to this chapter - just press play:
"You think this place is even real?" Marcus pushed open the warped wooden door and a brass bell jangled overhead.

Sheila squeezed past him into the cramped shop, her shoulder brushing his chest. "Your coworker swore by it. Said the love potion actually worked."

"Yeah, well, Derek also thinks crystals cure hangovers." Marcus let the door swing shut behind them. The shop smelled like burnt sage and something sweeter, almost like caramel left too long on the stove. Shelves climbed the walls on every side, crammed with bottles in purple glass, clay jars sealed with wax, and leather pouches that bulged with God knew what.

Sheila ran her finger along a shelf and came away with a layer of dust. "It's definitely got the aesthetic down."

A curtain of beads rattled at the back of the shop and an old man shuffled through, his beard so long it disappeared into the folds of his robe. He wore tiny spectacles that caught the dim light. "Customers," he said, like he was surprised to find them in his store. "What brings you to my humble shop of wonders?"

Marcus opened his mouth but Sheila was already moving deeper into the aisles. "We're just looking," she called over her shoulder.

The old man, the wizard or whatever he was supposed to be, smiled with too many teeth. "Of course, of course. But if you need guidance, I am here. Everything in this shop works exactly as advertised. No refunds."

"Comforting," Marcus muttered. He followed Sheila down a narrow aisle where the bottles seemed to glow from within. Some of the labels were handwritten in spidery script. *Essence of Moonlight*. *Tears of the Honest*. *Balm for the Betrayed*.

Sheila stopped so suddenly he almost ran into her back. She was staring at a bottle on the middle shelf, about the size of a wine bottle but shaped like an hourglass. The liquid inside was opalescent, shifting between pink and gold and silver as the light hit it.

"Marcus." Her voice had gone quiet. "Look at this one."

He leaned over her shoulder to read the label. *Transformation Serum: Partner's Ideal*. Below that, in smaller letters: *Drink to become your partner's deepest desire. Results permanent. Use with caution and consent.*

"That's, uh." Marcus felt heat creep up his neck. "That's pretty specific."

Sheila picked up the bottle, turning it in her hands. The liquid moved like it was alive, swirling in lazy spirals. "It says it makes you into your partner's ideal body type."

"I can read." He tried to keep his voice light but his heart was doing something complicated in his chest. They'd been together for three years and the sex was good, great even, but there were things they didn't talk about. Things he'd kept buried in his browser history and the back corners of his mind.

Sheila glanced at him, her dark eyes unreadable. "Would you want to know? What I think is ideal?"

The question hung between them. Marcus thought about the videos he watched late at night when Sheila was asleep, the women in them soft and huge and spilling out of their clothes. He thought about the way his cock got hard just imagining Sheila with more weight, more curves, more everything. But he'd never said it out loud because what if she thought he was disgusting? What if she left?

"I mean." He cleared his throat. "Sure. Yeah. Would you?"

She bit her lip, still holding the bottle. "Maybe."

The wizard appeared at the end of the aisle like he'd materialized from smoke. "Ah, the Transformation Serum. One of my more popular items, though few have the courage to actually use it."

Sheila nearly dropped the bottle. "Jesus, you scared me."

"My apologies." He didn't sound sorry. "That particular serum is quite powerful. It reaches into the mind of your partner and extracts their truest ideal, then reshapes your body to match. Every detail. Every preference. Nothing hidden, nothing held back."

Marcus felt his mouth go dry. "Every detail?"

"Every single one." The wizard's eyes glittered behind his spectacles. "The conscious desires and the unconscious ones. The things they've told you and the things they've only imagined in the darkest privacy of their own thoughts."

Sheila set the bottle back on the shelf like it had burned her. "That sounds, um. Intense."

"Transformation always is." The wizard picked up the bottle and held it up to the light. The liquid inside seemed to pulse. "But I should mention, like all my serums, this one requires activation."

"Activation?" Marcus asked.

The wizard's smile widened. "Sexual intercourse. The serum bonds to your essences, you see, and needs the exchange of energy that comes from coupling. You drink it, you make love, and the transformation begins. It will continue until the ideal is fully realized."

Sheila's face had gone red. "You're saying we'd have to, uh, do it for this to work?"

"Precisely. And I should warn you, the serum has certain, shall we say, compulsive properties. Once the transformation begins, you'll find yourselves quite unable to stop coupling until it's complete. The magic demands it."

Marcus and Sheila looked at each other. He could see the same mix of fear and curiosity in her face that was probably written all over his.

"How long does it take?" Sheila asked. "The transformation?"

The wizard shrugged, his robes rustling. "Depends on how dramatic the change. Could be hours. Could be days. The serum works at its own pace."

"Days?" Marcus's voice cracked.

"The magic is thorough. It doesn't rush." The wizard pressed the bottle into Sheila's hands. "But I can see you're both curious. And curiosity, my dear customers, is the first step toward truth."

Sheila looked down at the bottle, then up at Marcus. "What do you think?"

He thought about seeing Sheila transform into his deepest fantasy, watching her body swell and soften and grow. He thought about being unable to stop fucking her while it happened, driven by magic to keep going. His cock was already getting hard just imagining it.

But there was a cold knot of fear too. Because if the serum worked both ways, if it made him into whatever Sheila secretly wanted, what would that be? He'd always assumed she liked him the way he was, lean and average. But what if her ideal was something else entirely?

"I don't know," he said honestly. "It's kind of scary."

"Kind of hot though," Sheila said quietly. "Knowing exactly what the other person wants. No more guessing."

The wizard chuckled. "Indeed. Honesty is the foundation of intimacy, is it not? This serum simply, makes honesty inevitable."

Marcus reached out and touched the bottle, his fingers brushing Sheila's. The glass was warm. "If we did this, we'd both drink it, right? Both transform?"

"That is the traditional approach, yes. Though some couples choose to have only one partner drink. It depends on your appetite for revelation." The wizard's eyes moved between them. "But I sense you're both curious about the other's desires. Both wondering what secrets live in your partner's mind."

Sheila's grip tightened on the bottle. "How much?"

"For you? Two hundred dollars. Cash only. No refunds, no exchanges, no complaints."

"Two hundred bucks to maybe turn into a monster," Marcus said, but he was already reaching for his wallet.

"Not a monster," the wizard corrected. "An ideal. Your partner's ideal. There's a difference."

Sheila was already counting out bills from her purse. She stacked them on a nearby shelf, her hands shaking slightly. "We're really doing this?"

Marcus added his share to the pile. "I guess we are."

The wizard scooped up the money and it disappeared into his robes. "Excellent. A few final warnings before you go. First, the transformation is permanent. There is no reversal, no undo. What you become, you stay. Second, the compulsive effects I mentioned, they're quite strong. You will not be able to stop coupling until the transformation is complete, no matter how long it takes or how, shall we say, vigorous things become. Third, the serum reveals truth. If you're not prepared to see your partner's deepest desires made flesh, don't drink."

Sheila clutched the bottle to her chest. "Anything else?"

"Yes." The wizard's expression turned serious. "Be very, very sure you trust each other. Because after this, there will be no more secrets between you. Not about this."

Marcus felt the weight of those words settle over him. He looked at Sheila, really looked at her. Her round face, her soft body that he loved to hold, her dark hair falling over her shoulders. In a few hours, if they went through with this, she might look completely different. And so might he.

"I trust you," he said.

Sheila's eyes got shiny. "I trust you too."

"Then you have everything you need." The wizard gestured toward the door. "Go home. Drink. Make love. And discover what you truly mean to each other."

They walked out of the shop in a daze, the bell jangling behind them. The afternoon sun felt too bright after the dimness inside. Marcus blinked, adjusting, and when he looked back the shop seemed smaller somehow, more cramped between the buildings on either side.

Sheila held the bottle up, watching the liquid swirl. "We don't have to do this. We could just, I don't know, keep it as a weird souvenir."

"Do you want to?" Marcus asked.

She was quiet for a long moment. "I want to know," she finally said. "I want to know what you really want. Even if it scares me."

"Same." His heart was pounding. "I've always wondered what you, you know. What you think about."

They walked to the car in silence. Marcus drove because Sheila seemed too distracted, staring at the bottle in her lap. He kept glancing over at her, trying to imagine what she might look like after the transformation. Would she be taller? Curvier? He thought about the women in his fantasies, the ones who were so fat they could barely move, their bodies soft and massive and overwhelming. Would the serum make Sheila like that?

And what did Sheila fantasize about? He'd caught her looking at bigger guys sometimes, men with bellies and thick arms. Was that what she wanted? Or was her ideal something completely different?

"Marcus." Sheila's voice broke into his thoughts. "What if we hate what we become?"

"The wizard said it's permanent."

"I know. That's what scares me." She turned the bottle over in her hands. "What if your ideal for me is something I can't stand? What if I turn into someone I don't recognize?"

Marcus pulled into their driveway and killed the engine. He sat there, hands on the wheel, trying to figure out what to say. "I love you," he finally managed. "Whatever you look like, I love you. And if my ideal is, I don't know, something weird, it's because I think you're beautiful and I just want more of you."

Sheila laughed, but it sounded shaky. "More of me?"

"Yeah." He felt his face heat. "More to hold. More to, uh. More."

She looked at him for a long moment, then leaned over and kissed him. Her lips were soft and familiar and he felt some of the tension ease out of his shoulders.

"Okay," she said when they broke apart. "Let's do this. Let's find out what we really want."

They went inside, Sheila still clutching the bottle. The house felt different somehow, charged with possibility. Marcus locked the door behind them and followed Sheila to the bedroom.

She set the bottle on the nightstand and sat on the edge of the bed. "How do we do this? Just drink it?"

"I guess." Marcus sat next to her, close enough that their thighs touched. "The wizard said we drink, then we, uh. Then we have sex. And the transformation starts."

Sheila picked up the bottle and worked the cork out. It came free with a soft pop and a smell like honey and lightning filled the room. The liquid inside glowed brighter now, pulsing in time with Marcus's heartbeat.

"You first or me first?" she asked.

"Together?" Marcus suggested.

She nodded and took a sip. Her eyes went wide. "Oh. Oh wow. It tastes like, I can't even describe it. Like every good thing I've ever tasted all at once."

Marcus took the bottle and drank. The liquid was thick and sweet and electric on his tongue. It slid down his throat like silk and he felt it spread through his body, warm and tingling. His cock went instantly hard.

"Fuck," he breathed.

Sheila was already pulling her shirt off. Her hands were shaking but her eyes were dark with want. "I need you. Right now. Is that the serum?"

"Must be." Marcus fumbled with his belt. The need to touch her, to be inside her, was overwhelming. He'd never felt anything like it.

They stripped fast, clothes flying everywhere. Sheila's body was soft and pale in the afternoon light coming through the curtains. Marcus ran his hands over her curves, her belly, her heavy breasts. She moaned and pulled him down on top of her.

"Wait," she gasped. "What if it starts while we're, you know."

"The wizard said it would." Marcus kissed her neck, her collarbone. "Said we wouldn't be able to stop."

"Oh God." But she was spreading her legs, pulling him closer. "Okay. Okay, I'm ready."

Marcus pushed inside her and they both groaned. She was so wet, so hot, and the need to move was irresistible. He started thrusting and Sheila wrapped her legs around his waist.

"I love you," she panted. "Whatever happens, I love you."

"Love you too." Marcus buried his face in her neck, breathing in her scent. "So much."

They moved together, the pleasure building fast. Marcus felt the serum working in his blood, felt something shifting deep inside him. This was it. The transformation was about to start.

And there was no going back.
