Chapter 10 - regrets

It amused Scott over the following weeks to see his exercise statistics posted all over Robyn's social media. If he went for a run in the day, or did a particularly long swim in the pool, there it was, pasted over Robyn's profile, with her taking full credit. He chuckled as he read the comments of support, congratulating Robyn on her newfound exercise craze. Meanwhile, the two friends could carry on meeting up for food once a week, just as they always did, without Harvey making a fuss.

"It's amazing," Robyn laughed as they sat down for their fried feast, "Harvey looks at me and thinks I've lost weight. He says she can see it in my ass and on stomach." She paused to lift her blouse a little and pinch the wide slab of blubber underneath. "I've actually gained 5lbs in the last month, not lost it!"

Scott laughed approvingly, watching as Robyn threw her blouse back over her jiggly tummy half-heartedly and not quite covering it all. "It won't work forever though," he cautioned.

"Well, I've tried my best to overeat in front of him so that he doesn't expect too much weight loss - like you suggested," Robyn reasoned.

"But you've gained 5lbs," Scott stressed, still smiling with delight. "When that keeps on happening... he's going to be cross."

"You think I'm going to carry on gaining weight?" Robyn asked, secretly delighted.

"Of course you are. You're an eating machine!" Scott smiled. "And we want to hit more food challenges, right?"

Robyn grinned broadly, her overfed double chin smiling just as much under her big smile. "Well, in that case, I may be single pretty soon..." she laughed, looking at Scott directly and then turning her eyes down, a little embarrassed at her own comment.

In truth, Scott realised that he had come to regret helping Robyn to lie to Harvey. He sensed that there was a developing understanding between them both. Despite managing to assist Robyn's inevitable weight gain, all he had really done was to prolong the long, drawn-out decline of Robyn's relationship with Harvey. Harvey was, and never had been, the type of man to date a big girl. But Scott sure was!
