Chapter 2 - Finding Friends

Jesse knew that he needed to find new friends in college; alone in a strange city as he now found himself. But Jesse had never once been short of friends before. Not that any of them were good to him now. Losing a football career and any hopes of fame and fortune will soon show someone who their friends really are. Jesse was done with the jocks and the flakes and the airheads. He wanted a new type of friendship circle this time around. On the first day, he didn’t think twice about trying to be friends with Ben; just the look and shape of him was so different from everyone else he had been forced to work alongside his entire life.

Ben was perhaps slightly less than six foot tall, but equally as round. About the same age, Ben looked refreshingly like he hadn’t done a day’s exercise in his entire life. His arms were thick and flabby, with drooping nipples under his t-shirt and an entire tire of fat around his waist. He was also one of those guys with a surprisingly large ass on him; wide and doughy looking. To Jesse, however, this obese guy’s body was absolutely fascinating. He’d never once been around anyone so big in his life.

Jesse was worried that he was coming on a little too strong, making such an effort to be buddies. Ben clearly wasn’t used to hanging out with guys like him. Perhaps he was the type of fat guy the jocks used to pick on in high school? Nevertheless, Jesse persevered, determined to explore different types of friendships to the ones he had had before.

Having already done his undergraduate degree at the college as well, Ben seemed to already have his social circle established. At first, Jesse had to invite himself along to their nights out at the bars, their nerdy board games evenings and midday coffee meet-ups. With all of them being overweight or obese, they seemed to look at Jesse with distrust. What was he even doing hanging out with them? Why was he bothering? It was only when Jesse started to prove his smarts in classes and began dominating the leaderboard of their board game nights that they finally started to relax a little; Jesse wasn’t all that different from them after all.
