Jackpot (march Writing Prompt)

Chapter 1

Mathew couldn’t believe it; he’d checked the ticket five times over to confirm what it was showing. He had just won the mega jackpot millions. He wasn’t even really a gambler, he’d only gotten a silly ticket with his friends since the pot had reached an all time high. They all knew the odds were impossible, but saw no harm in playing along for the fun of it. Except, despite those very odds Matt had somehow won.

He was giddy with excitement. He had to slow himself down and think rationally about his next steps. Lawyer, accountant, claim the money anonymously. That seemed like the best course of action. Over the next week he organized himself and by the end of it Matt was a multimillionaire with no one being the wiser. He’d taken the lump sum rather than payment in installments, but now it was all his.

With all the initial necessary hurdles having been cleared Matt had finally reached the fun part. How was he going to use his newfound wealth? He promptly quit his 9-5 office job. It had always been grinding and was more a means to an end than a career he truly appreciated. Next came a new home. His cramped apartment had never bothered him and worked well enough with his former budgetary constraints, but now he had the freedom to own any home he wanted. He found a lovely new house only a few miles from his apartment, keeping him in the same area. It was completely updated with a large living room and kitchen, 4 beds and 5 baths, and a nice yard and patio as well. A new car seemed like another obvious upgrade and his rusted out, yet reliable Honda was traded in for a spacious Cadillac SUV.

Even with all of these life-changing improvements Matt had still barely made a dent in his winnings. He sat in his new living room on his huge comfortable sectional couch when a devious little thought finally occurred to him. You see, Matt had always harbored a slightly odd and kinky fetish. He only ever approached it in the privacy of his bedroom when the mood struck and promptly shut it away with closing of his laptop. Matt liked the idea of getting fat, really fat. He’d often fantasized about this in all manner of scenarios, but never acted out on his urges in real life. He was ashamed and thought that explaining his desires to any partner or friend would result in disaster. Therefore, Matt’s skinny 5’11” 180 lbs frame took up a small fraction of his huge couch. He was a slip of a man which made his hidden desires all the more comical to him in a sad sort of way. A fat man trapped in a skinny guy’s body. Except now did he really need to stay trapped?

Societal pressures and the need for approval had always kept his hidden desires in check, but now that he’d suddenly amassed such wealth did he really care what others might think? He no longer had a boss he needed to impress to continue to get the bonuses and raises he worked for. Showing up to the office and pretending to get along with a team of workers was in his past. When it came to his friends, they would soon be aware of his sudden change of luck and what could they really say if he chose to enjoy life to the fullest given his financial freedom?

He began setting up services for all the mundane tasks and chores he used to take on himself. A maid service to keep his huge home clean, a landscaping service to keep the lawn in check, and of course a private chef to help explore and expand his limited pallet. By the end of this string of phone calls he was sure he wouldn’t have to lift a finger to keep his home in order. Next came fully stocking his cupboards. He had a huge walk in pantry and an equally huge double door refrigerator and freezer. He combed through a grocery delivery service ordering every little delicious thing that caught his eye. Within the hour it had been dropped off and put away. He now had what felt like enough food to last him the year.

It was finally all in place. Matt was free to do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. No responsibilities or jobs to speak of.

“Wow, I can’t believe this is my life.” Matt thought to himself as he fired up is playstation and tore open a bag of chips to munch on while he gamed.

“I could certainly get used to this.” He said aloud with a giggle.

Letters And ... 8 months
Exhilarating and a little foreboding. Stories about lottery winners usually end in tragedy, but I kinda feel like Matthew will bounce back. Fun story!

Haha I think he land on his feet, metaphorically speaking of course.
