Chapter 1

Growing up my parent's were always busy with work, so my grandparents raised me until I was old enough to take care of myself. My grandmother has always been a kind person, who loved cooking, baking, and watching old movies with me. She was a short petite woman with a large appetite. Now my grandfather on the other hand was tall and very heavy set. He loved eating and working on the farm. Those days spent with them consisted of working the farm with grandpa in the morning, and cooking with grandma in the afternoon followed by movies after dinner before bed. Those were the days,

Fast forward to now, I (25M), recently got accepted in a PhD program at the University 45 minutes from my grandmother. I also accepted a TA and Research Assistant job there as well. To save money and rekindle my relationship with my lonely grandmother, I decided to move in with her. Unfortunately it won't be the same without grandpa since he passed away a few years back. I haven't seen her since the funeral, and I can't wait to see her again. Last time she saw me I was in terrible shape after 4 years of partying and studying in college, and had a nice round beer belly. After hitting the gym for the last few years I am 6'5 231, so hopefully she'll recognize me!

The week before school and my job was suppose to start, I packed all my bags and drove the 9 hours to grandma's farm.

"Hey grandma I am about 15 minutes away, will you make sure the door is unlocked when I get there." I texted her

"Sure thing honey, I will actually be outside waiting for you, I am so excited to see you again!"

As I pulled into the driveway, there stood my 68 year old grandma, except she didn't look like I remembered, the women standing in the driveway was definitely short standing at 4'11 but not the 100 pound grandma I remembered but rather someone her was twice that size. As I got out of the care I definitely recognized her face even though it may have rounded out. I approached and hugged the much softer version of her.

"Grandma I missed you."

"I missed you too Trent, now let's get inside I have your favorite cookies and meal ready for you as a welcome home gift. Also you look so much like your grandpa when we first met."

I took my things inside the house, things were the same as last time I was here, and it definitely felt like home. As I headed to my room I had two things on my mind. The first being grandpa use to be skinny, what happened? The second is what happened to grandma? Well I would soon find out the answer to both of those things.
