Chapter 1 - New lifestyle

Emma was a 30-year-old woman with a penchant for staying fit. Her toned abs and slender figure had always been a source of pride. When her husband, Jack, got a promotion that required them to move from their bustling New York City apartment to a small town in Mississippi, she was excited for the change of pace but a little wary of the Southern cuisine she'd heard so much about. They packed their lives into a moving van and set off on the cross-country journey, the hum of the road lulling them into a sense of adventure and uncertainty.

The town, a patchwork of single-story houses and towering magnolias, was a stark contrast to the concrete jungle they'd left behind. The air had the scent of sweet tea and BBQ, and the local accents sang in a rhythm that was as warm as it was unfamiliar. Jack would be working on an oil rig, which meant weeks of solitude while he toiled away in the Gulf of Mexico. For Emma, this meant a chance to explore the quiet town and find her own way to fill her days.

Her first week in Mississippi, Emma stumbled upon a quaint little bakery, "Sugar Mama's Sweets," where the scent of freshly baked bread and sugared donuts wafted through the screen door. The bell above the door jingled merrily as she stepped inside. The walls were lined with shelves groaning under the weight of pies, cakes, and cookies that looked like they'd been plucked from a food magazine. The owner, a plump woman named Mabel, had a smile as wide as her waistline. She offered Emma a warm greeting and a job behind the counter. "You'll fit right in, darlin'!" she exclaimed, handing her an apron.

Emma eagerly accepted, seeing it as an opportunity to meet new people and keep herself busy while Jack was away. Little did she know, the aromas of the bakery would soon become as irresistible as the friendship offered by the other wives whose husbands also worked on the rigs. These women were a tight-knit group, bonded by their shared love for food and the long stretches of time they spent without their partners.
